Samsung Gear Fit awarded “The Best Mobile Device” at the MWC 2014

Well it’s not a surprise, at least to me. No matter Samsung have Galaxy S5 on their display at MWC, but it is the ‘Gear Fit’ that catches all the eyes around there. Surely it is one of the most innovative and nice looking device unveiled on MWC over the course of the week and the GSMA seems to agree with that statement as it bestowed the “Best Mobile Device” to the Gear Fit yesterday. The Gear Fit is unique in that it combines the utility offered by a fitness tracker and a Smartwatch. The design of the device is also quite striking, with the 1.84-inch curved AMOLED screen offering wide viewing angles and a higher resolution than the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo. The Gear Fit also comes with a real-time heart monitor and syncs activity information to Samsung’s S Health. The Tizen OS running device also has a battery life that is claimed to be twice as long as the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo.

Price of Samsung Gear Fit

Samsung’s Galaxy Gear missed the brief entirely as to the function a Smartwatch should serve, but the manufacturer more than redeemed itself with the Gear Fit. The design of the device is unobtrusive and minimalistic, but not too out of the way that you won’t notice an incoming notification. The true testament to the amount of interest in the Gear Fit can be gauged when you see that it has managed to overshadow the announcement of the Galaxy S5. The Gear Fit is scheduled to hit shelves at the start of the second quarter. Price is still a mystery at this point.

Sony unveils affordable quad-core Xperia M2 at MWC

The Sony Xperia M2 is the cheapest phone in Sony's Android line-up to offer a look that's pretty high-end. Sony's mid-ranges phones are pretty popular, and this one offers some pretty significant design upgrades that – on first impression – make it pretty close in some surface respects to the Sony Xperia Z2. Sony Xperia M2 comes with a 4.8" TFT display with 540x960 pixels resolution. It is powered by a Snapdragon 400 chipset with a quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 processor, Adreno 305 GPU, 2300mAH battery and 1GB of RAM. There is also 8GB internal memory, expandable with a microSD slot.

Xperia M2 features an 8MP camera with Sony's Exmor RS sensor. It has a single-LED flash and is capable of 1080p video recording. Sony Xperia M2 runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, but there is nothing mentioned on an upcoming update. Hopefully, Sony will treat it with KitKat soon after launch. The connectivity department of the Sony Xperia M2 offers 3G with HSPA, GPS with GLONASS, NFC, Wi-Fi with DLNA, Bluetooth 4.0 and FM radio.

Sony Xperia M2 vs Samsung Galaxy Grand 2

Sony will also offer a dual-SIM variant of the Xperia M2, letting users have two simultaneous, always active SIM cards with custom ring tones. Sony has yet to say exactly how much it will be, but I expect it to sit somewhere around the $400 mark. It's due to hit stores in the UK in "spring", although Sony also hasn't announced if it will be available in the US.

Sony unveils Xperia Z2: 5.2-inch display with 4K video recording

AT MWC 2014 Sony unwraps the Xperia Z2 flagship, a refinement of last year's Xperia Z1. Sony has carved out a niche for itself over the past couple of years with its waterproof range of smartphones; its latest flagship, the Sony Xperia Z2, builds on that position of strength. It has a 5.2" screen - a 1080p Triluminos IPS screen, with the same Bravia tech used in Sony's TV. Like the Samsung Galaxy S5, however, it doesn’t deliver anything particularly radical, but it redefines everything Sony learned over the year from Xperia Z and Z1. It's powered by Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 801 chipset with four Krait 400 cores at 2.3GHz, 3GB RAM and runs the latest version of Google’s Android 4.4.2 “KitKat” with some minor customisations, including some Sony applications and media subscription services. The Z2 packs 16GB of storage, plus a micro SD card slot for adding up to 64GB of space

Sony Xperia Z2 advantages over Samsung Galaxy S5

The big feature of Xperia Z2 is its 20.7MP camera. It has been updated with 4K video recording (at 30fps). The camera features the same 1/2.3" sensor with 27mm G Lens with f/2.0 aperture. Sony claims that recording in 4K is “future-proofing” your memories, which is arguably true, but it has integrated a video zoom function to make it more useful today with common full HD TVs. Z2's camera has gotten several new modes. One of the new effects is Timeshift, which records 720p video at 30fps. Another one is the Background defocus, yet another is a dedicated mode for Vines. Sony has also improved the device's sound capabilities — one of Z1's weak points — with a STM10 stereo mic that enables stereo audio recording, as well as stereo speakers and digital noise cancelling tech.

What are the benefits of STM10 stereo mic

The Z2 has the same tempered glass front and rear; the detailing on the edges and corners is identical; and the camera, flash and buttons around the edges of the phone are exactly as you’d find them on the Z1. Despite the size increase, the new flagship is only a little taller and actually narrower and thinner. The battery capacity went up a tad to 3,200mAh, while the weight went down to 158g from Xperia Z 163g. As before, the Xperia Z2 has an IP58 certification, allowing it to work under water.

Can i use STM10 stereo mic on Samsung galaxy phone?

In short, Sony seems to have taken the Xperia Z1 and improved it in nearly every way it could, while leaving design nearly the same. The phone will launch in March at €600 / £600. The initial color options are White, Black and Purple. Sony will also pack an advanced headset with digital noise cancellation, the Sony MDR-NC31EM, priced £40.

Samsung unveils Galaxy S5: Less WoW, it just WorKs

After months and months of rumor, leaks and speculation- Samsung turned everything upside-down and unveiled their latest Galaxy S flagship – The Samsung Galaxy S5. And Samsung is successful to match up most of the people-s demand except their all-rounder design and choice of build materials. Though the flagship opens a new chapter in Samsung's design – the back is still leather-like, but with a brand new look. It also has IP67 certification meaning its now officially dust and water resistant (not proof). The core features too were duly updated to put the Galaxy S5 ahead of its S4 predecessor – a 5.1" Super AMOLED screen of 1080p resolution, Snapdragon 801 chipset with 2GB of RAM, Android 4.4.2, 150Mbps LTE and a 16MP UHD camera.

Another thing that didn’t turn out as whispered was TouchWiz – it's new and based on Android 4.4.2 KitKat, but not as flat as some Holo fans would have hoped. No switch to on-screen buttons either – the Galaxy S5 has three keys below the screen, this time an App Switcher button replacing the Menu key. The battery is still user removable 2800mAh with new power saving feature.

Oh yes! Galaxy S5 have two new things. One is built in touch fingerprint sensor capable of doing lot more than Apple Touch ID and heart rate monitor at back. But at the Unpacked program its clear to see that Samsung guys are very excited over their camera features. It can shoot Ultra HD video just like Galaxy Note 3 at 30 fps with super-fast Auto Focus and live HDR shooting capability.

Samsung Galaxy S5 release date in india

Samsung’s also introducing new goods to S Health, with meal tracking and more nutritional information for you dieters out there, and an exercise log and mapped runs for those who like to keep track of where and how far they’ve run.

One thing is sure. As Samsung mention it in their event – they tried to make galaxy S5 simple and practical, unlike their Galaxy S3 and S4. There are no more numerous software tweaks, eye or air gestures. They invest more time to redefine and fine tune their previous goddies.

The Galaxy S5 will be available in four colors initially - Black, White, Blue and Copper. The US is getting only the Black and White ones though. But the good news is all major US carriers are expected to get the device (including MetroPCS and US Cellular), and you can bet it’ll also be stopping by every other corner of the world. Samsung mentioned it will be available over 150 countries at the same time at April 11. Unfortunately we still don’t have a price or date to look forward to.

Samsung ignites MWC with 2 new Tizen powered Smartwatches, Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo

Samsung don’t hesitate a moment after MWC opening to show off their next generation wearables, the successors of 2013 Galaxy Gear. One main important point is Samsung dropped GALAXY word from the name as well as Android inside and decided to give its own TIZEN OS a massive operation to run out in the wild. Newly unveiled Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo design is not too far away from the original Gear Smartwatch. No matter both the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are thinner and lighter than the previous one but Samsung claims that switching to Tizen allows for battery life of two to three days, which is twice as long as the original Galaxy Gear managed.

Samsung Gear 2 vs Gear 2 Neo

The Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo feature the same 1.63-inch Super AMOLED screen with the resolution of 320 x 320 that was seen on the original Galaxy Gear. The 1 GHz processor is slightly faster, while the internal storage and RAM are the same at 4 GB and 512 MB. New additions include an IP67 certification which means that these watches are dust and water resistant, a heart rate sensor and IR blaster for remote control of your home appliances. The battery has been downgraded to 300 mAh, but Samsung claims that battery life will be significantly better.

Which Samsung Gear is suitable for me?

The only major difference between these two devices is that the Gear 2 Neo does not come with the 2 MP camera that is included on the Gear 2. This allows the Gear 2 Neo to be 13 grams lighter than Gear 2. The Gear 2 is 68g, whereas the Neo is 55g; both are lighter than the original. Talking about design the camera is now built into the front of the watch alongside the IR blaster, which is much better than the original Gear's distracting wart on the wristband. The mic, formerly on the clasp of the strap, has now been moved up to the body of the device itself; this means that Samsung will now let you swap the wristband with either Samsung-specific models or third-party versions. It also features a home button just below the display instead of on the side, like the previous version.

Both Smartwatches to be available globally starting this April, but their pricing is yet to be confirmed. One good news is both models will be compatible with "more than dozens" of Galaxy smartphones when it launches. The Gear 2 will come in Charcoal Black, Gold Brown and Wild Orange, while the Neo replaces the Brown for a Mocha Grey hue.
