T-Mobile shares their wisdom of which Samsung phones getting Android 7.0 Nougat update

Now that Android 7.0 Nougat is officially out, the thing on most enthusiastic user's minds is whether their handset will be enjoying this iteration of Google's mobile OS and if so, when. Sadly, there is never a simple answer to this question, especially when you take into account all the regional and carrier versions of a given phone and their respective support life cycle.

Luckily T-mobile has released the list of Samsung devices that are ready to receive the latest Android 7.0 Nougat update. Unfortunately, the operator didn’t provide a timeframe for when it’s planning to start distributing the OTA, but at least we know it’s on the way. For reference though, T-Mobile was the first carrier to bring Android 5.1.1 to the Galaxy S6 (in just 39 days) but the third to deliver Marshmallow to that device, taking 189 days to cross the finish line. While the update has essentially zero chance of rolling out this year, at least owners of the following devices know they’ll get it eventually.

As expected the Galaxy S5 series and the Note 4 has been left out of the update list. It is possible that they may be included in the update list later as this is just the first list revealed by the company for the Android Nougat update.

UAE has no Samsung Galaxy S6s for sale due to very high demand

Samsung Electronics may just have its rival Apple Inc.'s favourite problems on its hands. The demand for its devices 'far exceeds' supply despite the company taking every measure, including gauging pre-order commitments, to ensure that it can steadily supply units to the market in line with the demand. Retailers in UAE, like the rest of the world are selling out of Samsung’s latest Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge handsets, raising questions over whether phone companies are dialling up the hype. Eros Group, the phones’ sole UAE distributor, says it has sold all of its allocation of 22,000 units. The phone launched globally last Friday and was treated to a midnight launch in the UAE. Initially Eros received 16,000 S6 models and 6,000 of the higher-specification Edge.

“Our first allotment of 22,000 units has been completely sold out and we are waiting for the second lot,” said Deepak Babani, the chief executive of Eros. “The second allotment is expected to arrive in the next couple of days.” And despite the steeper price-tag, it’s the S6 Edge that is more in demand among the well-heeled Dubai consumers. “Inquiries for the S6 Edge were more than the S6, with 65 per cent for the Edge and 35 per cent for the S6 model,” he said.

Still, the South Korean company seems to have underestimated the demand for its spearhead smartphones – the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge – and the Dubai-based sole distributor of Samsung devices says that it is doing its best to cater to customer interest.

While demand for the new Samsung smartphones in the UAE has been robust, there are still pockets of supply in Samsung-branded outlets. “We have sufficient stocks of the Samsung Galaxy S6 to hopefully take us through this weekend and slightly less than that for the S6 edge,” said Ashish Panjabi, the chief operating officer of Jacky’s Retail. Electronic retailers said that while the Edge was in high demand, the relatively small amount of supply meant that it was likely to be sold out.

The Galaxy S6 is available in four models. The Galaxy S6 (32GB) for Dh2,599, and the Galaxy S6 (64GB) for Dh2,899. The Galaxy S6 Duos (32GB) for Dh2,699, and the Galaxy S6 Duos (64GB) for Dh2,999. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is available in three models. The S6 Edge (32GB) for Dh3,099 while the S6 Edge (64GB) for Dh3,399 and the S6 Edge (128GB) for Dh3,799.

The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are being seen by analysts as Samsung’s comeback devices. The company lost the leadership slot among smartphones manufacturers to rival Apple Inc. in the fourth quarter of 2014, after being on top for 12 quarters since Q4 2011. Apple, the iPhone maker, overtook Samsung to sell the most smartphones in the fourth quarter of last year, selling nearly 75 million devices compared to Samsung’s 73 million.

Analysts cite the runaway success of Apple’s largest-to-date iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, as well as the lacklustre response to Galaxy S5, as reasons behind Samsung falling behind in the largely two-horse race.

Sprint starts shipping the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge on April 6 in US

After T-Mobile, Sprint has become the second US operator which has decided not to stick with Samsung’s official release date for the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge. Customers who pre-ordered Samsung’s new flagship smartphones from Sprint will start receiving them on April 6. "Samsung GS6 starts shipping Monday! Pre-order now to be among the first to get yours," the carrier said in a tweet.



As for the price, Sprint is offering the 32GB S6 for $200 on a regular two-year agreement and $648 sans contract, while the 32GB S6 Edge is priced at $300 on contract and $748 off contract. Sprint is selling the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge in black and white colors, the gold color is only available with the Galaxy S6 edge.

T-Mobile customers who placed their pre-orders on March 27 started receiving their units as early as last week.

Price of Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge is announced in Singapore

The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge represents a new direction for Samsung. Samsung Galaxy S6 & S6 edge UK prices revealed

As the pre-order of Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge started in UK two days ago, so the prices of the next generation Samsung flagship is now known. Most UK customers can expect to pay the same monthly amount for their wireless plan that they’re paying currently, so the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge up-front costs are a one-time fee required when signing a new agreement. Of course, unless you pay the full amount up-front, you’ll have a monthly payment tacked on to the wireless plan charge. The Samsung Galaxy S6 will be the slightly cheaper of the two, with a flat, conventional style 5.1-inch screen, and the premium Samsung Galaxy S6 edge has a display that wraps around each side in order to give the front a bezel-free look.

UK carrier O2 has published its pricing for customers who order either of Samsung’s newest devices through the carrier’s Refresh plan: Galaxy S6 customers can expect to pay £99 up-front and the remainder each month, along with their individual phone plans. For someone who purchases a 2GB plan with O2, will have to pay £38 a month. Cost of the Galaxy S6 edge is same but the customers will need to pay £48 a month in costs. O2 is encouraging sales of the Galaxy S6 edge, knowing that the last thing customers want to do is pay more out-of-pocket for Samsung’s most prestigious Galaxy S flagship.

Carrier EE is charging £49.99 up-front for both the S6 and S6 edge. It includes unlimited minutes and texts, as well as 4GB of data. For a 64GB Galaxy S6 edge, the monthly instalments creep up to £53.49 with the same upfront cost, but you get 20GB of data.



Fortunately Vodafone requires no up-front cost for its S6 models. A 24-month 4G contract for the 32GB Galaxy S6 will see you pay £48.50 a month with no upfront cost, for which you will get 7GB of data, unlimited minutes and texts, as well as Now TV, Spotify or Sky Sports Mobile TV for two years. If the Galaxy S6 edge is the phone you're after, Vodafone is offering the same contract as the Galaxy S6 but for an extra £5 a month, bringing the total up to £53.50 for the 64GB model.

Three UK will be adding the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge to its range of smartphones available for pre-order with upfront pricing for both phones starts at £49 on a 24-month contract.

Tesco Mobile has no up-front cost and is even throwing in a Double Data deal to encourage pre-orders. The Galaxy S6 edge will also be part of the promotion so you'll be able to get the same plan but for £43.50 a month.

Carphone Warehouse is giving away a free wireless charger with its pre-orders, and this should relieve the jaw-dropping response to the up-front cost of £259.99 for the 64GB Galaxy S6 edge. The 32GB Galaxy S6 will cost £79.99 up-front.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge UK pre-orders starts March 20

Samsung confirmed yesterday that pre-orders for the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge will start from Friday, March 20, in the United Kingdom. The country is included in the list of 20 which will receive the devices on April 10. There is an added incentive for people who place a pre-order at Samsung Experience Stores or the company’s website. They will receive their units on April 9. Those who pre-order from retailers or carriers will have to wait until the following day.



Vodafone, Three, O2 and EE will be all taking pre-orders for the Galaxy S6 duo, as well as Carphone Warehouse and Samsung.com. The pricing is yet to be announced, but we'll know it in just two days. The devices will be available in 32, 64, and 128GB storage options in White Pearl, Black Sapphire and Gold Platinum.

Yesterday Samsung also announced the pre-order date for Bangladesh which is 23rd March. And the price of Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are $900 and $1030 respectively.

Grameenphone to launch Samsung Galaxy S6 in Bangladesh for 69,900 taka

Samsung Electronics is launching its flagship smartphones Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in Bangladesh with Grameenphone. Grameenphone customers will be able to pre-book the handsets from Mar 23. The Galaxy S6 will sell for 69,900 taka ($900) and the S6 edge will cost 79,900 taka ($1030). Grameenphone customers can get the S6 at BDT 2,500 per month in 24 installments, upon paying a pre-booking amount of BDT 9,900. In addition, pre-booking customers will receive free accessories and free data bundles.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the companies on Wednesday, according to a media statement. Grameenphone’s Head of Product Hasibul Haque and Samsung India Electronics’ Bangladesh branch Managing Director CS Moon signed the deal.



The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are equipped with a vivid, bright and fast front and rear camera. The F1.9 lenses and high resolution sensors on both front (5MP) and rear (16MP) cameras provide better image quality in a smartphone, even in the dark. With fully embedded WPC and PMA-certified wireless charging technology, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are setting a new industry standard for universal wireless charging. They also provide about four hours of usage after only 10 minutes of charging in ideal test conditions.

Samsung Galaxy S6 will be available on Russia from 16 April

Samsung announced their 2015 flagship in MWC earlier this month and confirmed that both devices will be released in 20 countries on April 10th. Once the initial launch markets receive the devices Samsung will expand sales of its latest flagships to other countries. Russia is not among the 20 countries but the country’s residents won’t have to wait for too long in order to pick up the new devices. Samsung is going to release the Galaxy S6 in Russia on April 16th.

The base model of the flagship will cost 49,990 rubles which is $820 at this moment. That’s more than what customers are going to pay in some other markets. Currency fluctuation is a major reason behind this high price tag. Hi-Tech.Mail hears that the Galaxy S6 sold in Russia will have dual-SIM support with 64GB storage. The 32GB model will not have dual-SIM support. The Galaxy S6 edge will also not have dual-SIM support and will be available with 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage options.



In the meantime it looks like Samsung Galaxy S6 is about to enjoy a stellar debut in Europe. According to a new report, pre-orders for the Korean giant’s latest flagship smartphone in Switzerland are four times higher than those of last year’s Samsung Galaxy S5.

Samsung unveils new metal glass made Galaxy S6 duo at MWC

The Samsung Unpacked event at the MWC 2015 is all about the next generation of Galaxy smartphones - the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge. Its no surprise that Samsung Galaxy S5 was a utter disappointment because it was hardly the exciting new Galaxy smartphone consumers were hoping for. The new Galaxy S6 series is a departure from the previous series, switching from an all-plastic shell to a dual-glass design enhanced with a metal frame. The new combination of materials works great indeed and the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge are arguably, the most beautiful Galaxy smartphones to date. We’re sure, many will forgive the camera hump on the back for sure. The front and back body of the phones are molded from Gorilla Glass. The frame is aluminum.

Inside, the Samsung Galaxy S6 is powered by 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM and its own octa-core Exynos processor. Samsung didnt specify the processor name during our pre-briefing (well update this article when we get details), but it did mention that this is a 64-bit, 14nm system-on-a-chip. The company also claims its processor is about 30 percent more power-efficient than before, and that two separate quad-core sets are for two very specific purposes: One set is geared toward battery efficiency, and the other set is for performance.



Samsung Galaxy S6 packs a 5.1" Super AMOLED screen with Quad HD resolution resulting into the amazing 577 ppi density. It is protected by the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The hardware Home key once again doubles as fingerprint sensor and supports the new Samsung Pay service. The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will both include technology for mobile payments, though Samsung isn't unveiling a service to rival the iPhone's Apple Pay until this summer. Samsung's new phones will incorporate technology from LoopPay, a startup that Samsung is buying. LoopPay's technology reproduces the signals from a credit card's magnetic swipe, so it can work with existing retail equipment. Most rivals, including Apple Pay, require newer equipment.

When it comes to cameras, the Galaxy S6 packs in a rear 16 megapixel camera, and a 5 megapixel front facing camera. The camera also features realtime HDR and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) to make sure your shaky hands don’t prevent you from taking a great shot. And to make sure you can take a photo in a moments notice, the camera is always on standby. In addition to this, the S6 comes with an improved fingerprint scanner, LTE CAt.6 at up to 300Mbps, 2,600 mAh non-removable battery, WPC and PMA wireless charging, and support for Samsung’s new mobile payments service, launching later this year.



This is one area where Samsung has doubled down on innovation and made some real strides. The Galaxy S6 boasts the title of being the fastest charging smartphone on the market — it takes just 10 minutes of charging to get 4 hours of typical use, and you can charge the phone to full in half the time it would take an iPhone 6. And better still, the S6 comes with built-in wireless charging. No additional cables or special phone cases are necessary to make it work.
