You can either get the OTA update, or connect your device via USB and download the update manually using Samsung Kies. The baseband version for the Android 4.4.2 KitKat build for the Galaxy S4 is N900R4TYUCNAB and R970TYUFNAE for the Note 3. As always all users will not receive the update at the same time.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Samsung Galaxy S4 leaked

I am sure that every Samsung Galaxy S4 owner is eagerly waiting for the Android 4.4 KitKat update. Samsung is yet to release it or even the release date, we are lucky that Sammobile has received a pre-release firmware of Android 4.4.2-running TouchWiz for the Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505. The release has build number I9505XXUFNA1 and its authorized to use in all over the Europe. Remind this I9505 is the Snapdragon version of Galaxy S4, it’s not I9500, the octa-core version of Galaxy S4.

After testing the firmware for a few days Sammobile comments that the build is still shaky but stable enough to be used as a daily driver. The final update is expected to be released to the Galaxy S4 owners in the February to March window. The most notable changes are the white status bar icons (moving away from the green ones), a camera shortcut on the lockscreen, performance boost and an improved landscape keyboard. You can check out all the screenshots on Sammobile page. I only post a few below.

Android 4.4.2 is seeding to Nexus devices

Google is always treating their Nexus branded devices with seriousness than all other devices. That’s why they are always releasing the latest firmware to Nexus devices and if anything goes wrong they are always ready to release a bug fix for it. Only last month they released Android 4.4 KitKat to Nexus devices. While no other smart devices taste it so far Google is kind enough to release two bug fixes for it, Android 4.4.1 and 4.4.2 today.

Some of the Nexus users earlier reported that Android 4.4.1 update doesn’t fix their camera bug so Google is replying fast with KOT49H update which bumps the device firmware version to Android 4.4.2 KitKat. This upgrade doesn’t change much over 4.4.1, but it does bring a few bug fixes that should go toward a better overall user experience.

The upgrades are rolling out over the air. Don’t forget to charge your battery and turn on WiFi, though we hear this is a very light upgrade by today’s standards. You’ll be able to get this upgrade on all the latest Nexus devices, including the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 10, and Nexus 7 tablets (both 2012 and 2013 models).
Here are the list of change and fixes in Android 4.4.2-
  • Fix for clearing the VM Indicator
  • Fix for delivery of the VM Indicator
  • Various additional software fixes
  • Security enhancements
