LG might kill off modular design in G6

When the LG G5 debuted in April, it made waves with its unique modular-like design. Its removable battery can be swapped out from the phone's bottom chin, and other accessories like a camera grip and a digital-to-analog audio converter, can be attached to give the handset additional functionality.Now a new report from the company's home of South Korea claims LG's next flagship smartphone, the G6, will have no such swap features. It's simply because it turns out that people aren't interested in such gimmicks and just want the best features to already be in their top of the line smartphone when they buy it, not be upsold expensive accessories on top of that.



LG has yet to confirm or deny this new report, and as always, unconfirmed stories like this should be taken with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, it does sound plausible that LG is trying to make its next flagship phone with a more traditional design, and move away from the still unproven modular idea. The G5 has clearly not been LG's most successful flagship offering, not even close, which might have something to do with the convoluted modular system which required taking out the battery every time you wanted to connect an accessory.

Here we have the 1st Xiaomi Mi 5S camera sample

Xiaomi debuted the Mi 5 and Mi 5 Pro earlier this year, and the company may think the Mi 5 needs a slight update to compete with the best smartphones that have been released since. So the Chinese company has scheduled a product launch event on September 27 where the Mi 5S is expected to be unveiled. From what has been revealed so far, is expected to equip with top of the line hardware. The Mi 5S is expected to feature Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 821 paired with 6GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The device is expected to pack in a 5.15-inch display and a 3,490 mAh battery.

We have got official confirmation that it will sport a dual rear camera arrangement like iPhone 7 Pro. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun outed the first ever camera sample for the Mi 5S on his Weibo account today. It definitely looks great, of course, because official camera samples from phone makers always look great. The EXIF data reveals it was shot with f/2.0 aperture, ISO 100, and 1/750s shutter speed. Oh, and the camera name field lists "Mi 5S", so this seems set in stone as the handset's moniker now.



Xiaomi will continue to be the 'value for money' champion we've known so far. The 5S will reportedly retail for CNY 1,999, meaning about $299 or €267 at the current exchange rates. For this amount of money, you'll get the SD821 chip, 6GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage.

Another model called Mi 5S Plus will be priced at CNY 2,999 ($449, €401), and this will sport a 5.7-inch QHD display, 6GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage, while retaining the SD821 SoC of course.

[Rumor] Samsung might use Magnesium alloy to make Galaxy S7 lighter and stronger

A new rumor out of Samsung's home country of South Korea claims to give us an idea of the material that will be used in the upcoming Galaxy S7. This is based on samples that are already in development. Unlike the Galaxy S6, which uses an aluminum frame, the company's next flagship will allegedly be coming with a magnesium alloy construction. More importantly this will be a unibody design, marking a departure from the Galaxy S6, in which only the frame is metallic, with the back being made of glass. The S7 would thus be Samsung's first fully metal flagship device ever.



The magnesium alloy was apparently chosen because of how light it is while still remaining strong and durable. Magnesium is said to be 2.8 times stronger than aluminum while weighing 65% less. Magnesium also gets less hot than aluminum, which is a feature that's of great use in the mobile world, where chipsets and displays generate quite a lot of heat. For instance, the iPhone 6s unveiled last week is manufactured from 7000-series aluminum, which is the same material Apple used in the creation of the Watch Sport. This type of aluminum is much more resilient and less vulnerable to bending.

Rumor of cheaper Samsung Galaxy S5 might be true

One of the very few rumors regarding Samsung Galaxy S5 is it will be a cheaper device from Galaxy S4 considering the opening price. And the good news is that might be true. According to a South Korean source the official launch price of Galaxy S5 will be $750, around $80 lower than previous Galaxy phone. The Samsung Galaxy S5 is going to hit the world covering 150+ countries on April 11, but there is still no official pricing announced from the Korean manufacturer.

Samsung Galaxy S5 is expected to go on pre-order two weeks before launch. Many EU retailers have the Galaxy S5 already listed with prices, but those are unofficial and will be corrected once the retail pricing is confirmed.

Sony XPERIA Z2 tablet specs leaked, looks great in paper

Once again courtesy by Evleaks we have some light over Sony’s one of upcoming product in MWC next weeks. It’s a tablet possibly named XPERIA Z2, successor of nicely designed XPERIA Z tab. They also posted all the main specs of the tablet in their Twitter post. Everything is just as we expected from a high end tab is there including Sony exclusive sleek waterproof body. Z2 will be a 10.1-inch tab having 1920 X 1080 pixel display. There is also rumor that the tab will be lighter than iPad Air!

Now lets see what we’ve found inside. There is a quad-core Snapdragon 800 SoC clocked at 2.3GHz CPU powering all the little beasts inside with the help of 3GB RAM. The internal memory is 16GB with a microSD card slot, 8 megapixel rear camera and 2 megapixel front camera, 6,000mAh battery, 6.4mm waterproof body and will run Android 4.4 KitKat.



No launch date is available as of now but we might just see it at the MWC 2014 next week. Price update is also in the black so far.

Surely this list is made for US carriers only. But this will also ensures all others around the globe. As for the Samsung Galaxy S4, it was only this morning that Samsung began pushing out KitKat for users of the LTE-A variant over in South Korea. Note 3 KitKat upgrade is already Ota for the last couple of days in Poland and other few regions. Early reports of firmware from both the Galaxy S4 and Note 3 suggest Samsung didn’t change much in KitKat. It is fair because most of their significant upgrades came with the upgrade to Android 4.3. Which mainly enables new camera features and Galaxy Gear compatibility along with other enhancements.

Unfortunately, that’s about the length of our knowledge thus far. There’s no telling when, exactly, Samsung will look to push the upgrades out, nor do we know if they’re even close to being ready for public consumption. But it is safe to say that Android 4.4 upgrade is not coming to Galaxy S3 and Note 2 not before April 2014 because these devices just received Android 4.3 two months ago. And seeing Samsung Galaxy S3 mini is also pleasing for many eyes i am sure!

Nokia X might have a 3MP camera, running Android 4.1.2

Another day and another Nokia Android rumor. This time we have update from CamSpeed camera benchmark. They spotted Nokia RM-980 in their database, which is so called Nokia X (Normandy). The Nokia X that did the benchmark was the dual-SIM version and the detected camera was a 3MP fixed-focus shooter. Rumors until now claimed a 5MP camera, meaning they could be wrong or the single and dual-SIM versions have different cameras. A different prototype module can also create some confusion here too.



The Nokia X ran Android 4.1.2, which will be heavily customized by Nokia surely. Earlier we also saw an Android 4.4 KikKat running Nokia X too! Other specs for the phone include a 4" WVGA screen, dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 4GB storage and a microSD card slot. Unfortunately, there's no info on what kind of video the camera will record. The phone is supposed to launch as an Asha device in March. And we are also sure that the phone will look like an Asha phone.

Samsung scheduled Galaxy S5 Unpacked event for February 24

At last after so many rumours Samsung this time decided to uncover the Galaxy S5 revealing date to us. The Korean giant’s next major mobile product announcement will take place this February, on February 24 in Barcelona, right at the MWC kick-off. That’s the least expected date and I place I believe according to many experts. The invitations contain more than a subtle hint that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will break cover during the event. They have the number 5 on display which is as clear a suggestion as it gets in our book.



The same source also claims that Samsung has decided to keep it simple in terms of new software features, after many of the new features such as Air View on the Galaxy S4were considered gimmicky by critics. Instead, the company will focus on other features to make the device more attractive to relatively untapped audiences, such as business users, with features such as the KNOX security suite. While that’s certainly good news, as it could mean the S5 won’t add too heavily to the already existing bloat on Samsung devices, it might also come as disappointment to those who like to modify their phones’ software, as Samsung’s current implementation of KNOX has already caused enough problems with simple things such as getting root access.

A potential appearance of the Samsung Galaxy S5 during the Mobile World Congress guarantees it a great deal of spotlight. Samsung was relatively quiet during last year’s MWC and did not announce any flagship products. The Galaxy S5 is expected to sport a 5.25-inch display of 2K resolution, an Exynos 6 octa-core / quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, 16-megapixel rear camera, 3.2-megapixel front-facing camera, 32/64 GB of storage and a microSD slot, a 3,200 mAh battery, and Android 4.4 KitKat with a refined user interface. It will come in both a metallic and plastic variant, most likely with a fingerprint scanner on-board, and launch in markets sometime in March. These all are speculation at this moment. So we are not certain about all of these.

Nokia Normandy (Nokia X) hits Browsermark database

Another day, another Nokia Android rumor. This times its just more than a rumor, we can easily mark this as a confirmation. Today Nokia X (also known as Nokia Normandy) has entered benchmark database - the one of Browsermark 2. According to the submitted info, Nokia X's model number is RM-980 and its Chrome browser scores 1885.88 on the test.

According to the rumors, Nokia X won't be a Google certified phone, which means no Google Services including the Play Store. Nokia will reportedly provide its own application store, but the users will be able to side load apps, too. This information contradicts the previous leaks by an online retailer where they said that Nokia Android will support all Google services.



As of now we know some of Nokia X specs too - a 4" WVGA display, dual-core Snapdragon 200 chipset, a 5MP cam, 4GB storage, dual-SIM, six different colors, stripped down Android 4.4 KitKat. It is expected to go official at the Nokia's pre-MWC event in Barcelona next month.

A ghost Nokia Normandy, running Android 4.4 live on a Vietnamese retailer's website

Nokia Normandy rumors are up again. This its more powerful and more obvious. Largest online retailer in Vietnam, The gioididong.com, has posted a listing for the Nokia Normandy. The listing shows an official picture with Nokia's proprietary Android skin we've already seen several times. The specs once again get confirmed too - a 4" WVGA display, a dual-core 1GHz processor (Snapdragon 200 chipset), 512MB RAM, Adreno 302 GPU, a 5MP rear camera with 720p video recording, dual-SIM capabilities and Android 4.4 KitKat. The design is similar to Nokia Asha phones. But there is no price or release date is mentioned on the site.



The retailer also claims the phone will support all Google services including Google Now, Google Play Store and YouTube. In the meantime Eveleaks has given us new information regarding Android running Nokia again. They claim the phone's official name will be Nokia X.

Samsung might introduce new one-hand operation UI in Galaxy S5

Every day we are hearing something new about the upcoming Samsung flagship, the Galaxy S5. Today is no different. This time we heard something new about the user interface in Galaxy S5. You may well aware that Samsung might introduce new TouchWiz Ui but there might be more in the Sammy’s hand. Korean patent information website called K.I.P.R.I.S published information about newly given patents to Samsung recently. And we are hoping that these images could give some idea about the upcoming S5 UI. According to the patent Samsung gives everyone the opportunity to choose which corner they want to use this function. Customers are now able to use one hand and select all kinds of functions such as apps, notifications or favorite calls. We have to say that this looks very useful to use on big smartphones with huge displays.



Secondly Samsung received patents on probably their new music interface which is deeply integrated with social media. If we will see this application called “Friends Music” back on the Galaxy S5 remains the question. According to the latest rumors will Samsung introduce the GALAXY S5 on day before MWC 2014. But there is no official word behind this as well.

Unofficial confirmation: Both Samsung S3 and Note 2 will receive KitKat update

I have fantastic news for both 2 years old Samsung galaxy S3 and one-half years old galaxy Note 2 owners. A Samsung insider says that a couple of former flagships will get updated to the latest version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat within the next couple of months. Which clearly indicating the Galaxy S3 and Note 2 should get the update by the end of March this year. A Samsung software engineer with knowledge on the subject claims that both devices will be updated in late Q1 of this year, after the expected Galaxy S4 KitKat rollout.



The update will include performance tweaks and updates, and a few new software features. The transparent status bar, new print feature from settings, and immersive full-screen mode will be included. The KitKat update for the S3 and Note 2 is expected to be out in phases, which means that carrier branded variants will likely receive the update as much as a full month later. So be patient for this moment please.

Nokia Normandy leaks again, this time with pics running Android KitKat

If I remember correctly I have been writing this type of article over the past 3 years. It’s always nice to hear a Nokia phone running the most popular smartphone OS in the world, Android. We have heard so many rumor regadring a Nokia Android phone over the years. What’s remarkable here is the rumor it not even stopped after Nokia is eaten by giant Microsoft! Today we have new rumor in our plate and it seems the Normandy rumors continue, suggesting the device might come to live against all odds.

Last month we learned the codenamed Normandy device is supposed to be an entry-level Android smartphone under old Nokia management. The new leaks suggested Normandy will be reusing the iconic Lumia design and will come in a plethora of different colors, just like the affordable Asha and Lumia phones.

Today the famous tipster evleaks has posted renders of Normandy running on Android. We get to see a glimpse of Nokia's launcher, particularly the lockscreen, Viber and Skype apps. Judging by the Normandy's status bar, this should be a dual-SIM phone.



Another leaks from today sheds some more light on the alleged Normandy specs. As it turns out someone has put the Normandy through AnTuTu's test, so we can see some of its specs. Nokia RM-980 A110 codenamed Normandy reported featuring a 4-inch FWVGA display (480x854 pixels), a 5MP rear camera and runs on Android 4.4.1 KitKat. Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU powered the handset to run the test. If Normandy is similar to the previously tipped "Mountain View" Android prototype, then it might be running on the Snapdragon 200 chipset (quad-core Cortex-A5/Adreno 203 or quad-core Cortex-A7/Adreno 302).



Some recent rumors suggest the Normandy development is at "full steam ahead" and the smartphone is supposed to hit the shelves this year. Some go even further saying the team working on Normandy (Project N) will stay at Nokia and continue to work on it alongside other devices like Nokia SmartWatch after Microsoft's acquisition is completed.

Personally I don’t believe any of these rumors. But it is also true that I will be delighted most I am proved wrong later. Maybe there is something going on at Nokia and some of this is happening, but maybe there isn't. In fact there is a good chance somewhere on the way a tiny rumor has completely gone out of control feeding on the hopes of the loyal fans.

Evleaks shows us future Samsung TouchWiz UI

Within days after the last leak, Evleaks is on the headline again. This time they managed to grab 3 screenshots of the upcoming TouchWiz UI currently developing by the Samsung. According to them, Samsung is currently only "exploring" the user interface. More mature than the current TouchWiz UI versions, the new design is a bit more toned down and feels a bit more rounded. Additionally, the homescreens pack interesting widgets, but at this point we can't know for sure what they're doing.



We guess Samsung will be ready for the new version of TouchWiz to debut on the upcoming Galaxy S5. It's rumored that the company is rushing to announce the phone at MWC in Barcelona, although this is yet to be confirmed and it seems more likely that the company will hold its own event instead. We can hope once again it might be Evleaks that might give us more in the future about that too.

HTC M8 new details come to light: May be called HTC One+

Evleaks released new details about HTC's M8 yesterday as they suggest HTC's newest flagship phone is rumored to be called the One+. According to Mike1986, a popular ROM developer on XDA (who regularly obtains leaked HTC software builds) we now have some additional info on what we can expect from the HTC One follow-up. HTC One+ it will have a 4.9-5.0 inch Full HD display and a Snapdragon 805 processor under the hood alongside speedier 2GB DDR3 RAM.

Another interesting point is the camera. There will be a 6MP or 8MP camera with double lens on the back which is rumored to be exchangeable. Double lens doesn’t means 3D recording here, it will increase dynamic range and improve picture quality as well. A 2.1MP front camera complete the shooting game with 2,900 mAh battery, a microSD card slot and NFC.



On the software side, we can expect the One+ to have Android 4.4 Kit-Kat out of the box, overlaid with HTC Sense 6. Another interesting fact is that the One+ is rumored to not have any physical buttons, with all of the Android interaction taking place on screen, like the Nexus series.

As always, these are just rumors, so don't take them as gospel just yet. The One+ is speculated to make its debut at Mobile World Congress, from February 24-27 in Barcelona. Don’t forget if HTC once again goes the Google Play edition route, we might have one heck of a Nexus killer on our hands.

New rumors confirms the Metal finished premium Galaxy F along with S5 again

Samsung has been heavily criticized over the year for not making metal or aluminum casing for their premium devices. Now we all are hoping that the scenario will change in early 2014. Either Samsung Galaxy S5 or new premium series Galaxy F will feature metal body everyone is waiting for. Now another Korean source is giving same information again. ETNews reported that Samsung plans to make a high end metal smartphone: the Galaxy F. The phone will be decked out with a metal exterior. This is supported by earlier reports that a production line in Vietnam was created for making metal casings for the Galaxy S5.

We also previously reported that Samsung had plans for a metal clad, premium line of smartphones, which will carry the model number SM-G900F, giving more and more credence to the phones rumored release. It should be launched around the same time as the highly awaited Galaxy S5.

The Galaxy F is purported to be Samsung's newest top-of-the line handset, but we don't know if this "premium" approach extends to the device's technical specs. There's been rumors that in addition to the metal body of the Galaxy F, the phone will sport an QHD 2K display (2,560x1,600 pixels). However, these rumors are unsubstantiated. So keep your eyes open for any new developments.

Samsung preparing for new wearable: Galaxy Band

It must be hard to accept for Samsung think tanks the defeat of Samsung Galaxy Gear. It had so many expectations but has a little to offer in return. But Samsung is determined to right its wrongs, and although it already announced that a second watch is on its way, this one could come with a completely new identity in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Band. Korean site Digital Daily (via Ubergizmo) claims Samsung's next wearable gadget will be called the Galaxy Band, and will focus more on health and fitness than the Gear did. If the news has any credibility than its alarming for rivals like the Nike FuelBand and the FitBit.

Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Band at Mobile World Congress in February, with the device going on sale sometime before the end of March. These are just rumors at the moment, so take it all with a pinch of salt. But it's certainly intriguing. The source claims that the Galaxy Band will be packed with load of sensors for capturing data on motion, pressure and temperature, and that it will link to Samsung's Galaxy devices via Bluetooth LE.

The Galaxy Band will be worn on the upper arm, rather than being a traditional smart watch, according to Digital Daily. Fitness tracking tools like a pedometer are said to be on board. Like the Galaxy Gear, the Band should connect to your mobile device over Bluetooth.

Luc Julia, VP of Samsung's innovation lab and former Apple engineer who oversaw the development of Siri, is said to be overseeing the project. Julia formerly worked on Siri, Apple's robot butler that lives in your iPhone. Julia joined Samsung in 2012 and has been heading up its Internet of Things project, SAMI (Samsung Architecture for Multimodal Interactions).

Though Samsung fail to impress us with Galaxy Gear but still they manage to sell 800,000 of them. Which is pretty impressive, for an accessory that costs £300. Nevertheless, Samsung admitted the device lacks something special, and promised a sequel is coming soon. So galaxy gear 2 is on the way for sure!

Samsung is known for their longer firmware support in Android arena, certainly more enough to be noticable it from other major manufacturers. Now i have such a good news for you people who know the names of Android 4.4 – KitKat.

According to Sammobile, a very reliable source of Samsugn insider, it just came to light that Samsung is planning to update not only its high-end samrtphones like the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy S3 for getting Android 4.4 KitKat in January but also as it turns out, the manufacturer is considering also bringing the latest version of Android to its more affordable droids.

A leaked internal document shows that Samsung is investigating the Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy S3 mini, Galaxy S Advance, Galaxy Core, Galaxy Fame, Galaxy Ace 2 and the Galaxy Fresh to see if they are capable of running KitKat smoothly. As you might know the latest version of the Android world lowers the minimum RAM requirement to just 512MB. Lets not forget that the custom TouchWiz skin that Samsung preinstalls on its smartphone.

So what we learnt from it. Well, its not official news atleast. Samsung is just investigating the compatibility and hasn't officially announced any firm plans. So keep your eyes and ears open for more in the coming days.
