Android ICS is real for LG Optimus 2X

Earlier Canadian unit of LG mobile gave us a shocker. They told us that Android ICS will not come to LG Optimus 2X ever. But after a long delay, LG headquarter from Korea confirms that the update is in the works. We are not sure yet that is it about the worldwide version of Optimus 2X or not but at least Korean customers don’t need to worry about this. The tweet from LG Korea confirms that the ICS update procedure is already undergoing testing.

The ICS update for the LG Optimus 2X was targeted at some time in Q3. LG Optimus 3D P920 will also be in the queue of getting ICS update. LG didn't specify when ICS will be ready for release.

LG announces update plan of Android Ice Cream Sandwich

LG made promise about Android ICS long time ago. They said us that an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich for their phones released in 2011. Now they have just announced a release schedule for the Ice Cream Sandwich update.

The updates will start rolling out in two waves like Sony Ericsson. The first wave will begin in Q2, 2012. LG Optimus LTE, Prada phone by LG 3.0, the LG Optimus 2X, the LG Optimus Sol, the LG my Touch Q and the LG Eclipse are the first in line.

The second wave of updates will begin in Q3, 2012 and will cover the following handsets: the LG Optimus 3D, the LG Optimus Black, the LG Optimus Big, the LG Optimus Q2 and the LG Optimus EX.

Many of these devices run Android 2.2 Froyo untill now. So it seems LG skip Gingerbread for those handsets. But we are happy that LG have slowly learned the importance of timely updates and now seem to be doing an even better job compared to the likes of Samsung and HTC.

LG will be offering the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS upgrade for a range of LG smart-phones which were introduced this year. The global upgrade schedule will begin in the second and third quarters of 2012, which will be followed by a global roll out.

During the second quarter of 2012 upgrades will begin for the following smartphone models: the LG Optimus LTE, Prada phone by LG 3.0, the LG Optimus 2X, the LG Optimus Sol, the LG my Touch Q and the LG Eclipse. These upgrades will be followed by upgrades for the following smartphone models during the third quarter of 2012: the LG Optimus 3D, the LG Optimus Black, the LG Optimus Big, the LG Optimus Q2 and the LG Optimus EX.

LG will be taking all possible measure to offer a smooth OS upgrade in a timely manner. The exact start dates can vary by market, as each country can have different requirements, depending on the carrier and the smartphone model.

LG rolls out Gingerbread to Optimus 2X in UK

LG were rolling out Gingerbread to its Optimus handsets from mid November. Now at the start of December, it is starting to roll out in UK to Optimus 2X users. If you have one of these handset then the update is already available to you. Its a shame fro the Optimus 2X users that a dual-core smartphone wait such a long time for one single major firmware upgrade after original release.

LG Optimus 2X will receive Ice Cream Sandwich update on time- LG officially confirms

If you've been wondering about the fate of Ice Cream Sandwich on the LG Optimus 2X, then I have a big smile for you. LG has just confirmed via Facebook that it the latest Android OS is indeed coming to the 2X and other "high-end smartphones," effectively debunking rumors to the contrary. Unfortunately LG isn't quite ready to tell a release date, but promises that "detailed information" is on the way.

Gingerbread is coming to LG Optimus 2X, 3D and Black from November 1

LG announced that they will release the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for LG optimus 2X, LG Optimus 3D and LG Optimus Black from November 1. They made the announcement via Facebook yesterday. Updates will be available worldwide, but exact time is carrier and region dependent. And some of you in Europe already have the new firmware waiting on their Optimus 2X. LG would like to express its sincere thanks to all of the Optimus Series owners who have been waiting patiently for the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade. LG Optimus One Gingerbread firmware update on the go

LG Optimus One Gingerbread update is scheduled to be released sometimes in future but GSMArena reports that the LG Optimus One has started rolling out. Reports from numerous countries say that the Optimus One is now being updated to Android 2.3.3. The update needs to be downloaded through LG’s desktop client though, as that’s just how LG rolls.

They are also saying that the other recently launched LG phones, such as the Optimus 2x and Optimus 3D will be getting the Gingerbread update soon. I am really looking forward to it. Because without Gingerbread smartphone like Optimus 2X or 3D is looking poor.

Guinness World Records is always something especial for everyone. And when it is about positive company branding then it means a lot. Korean company LG now have one positive record on their hand. LG Optimus 2X Disadvantages: Outputs are the Problem

Without any hesitation anyone cans i that LG optimus 2X is the world most famous dual core mobile phone now. In a word this Android running phone is a true powerhouse. All the harware inside LG Optimus 2X are excellent. 1 GHz dual core processor, nVidia Tegra 2 chipset, 1080p HD video recording capability, Wi-Fi Hot spot, HDMI port are the main highlights of this Android 2.2 phone. Earlier i wrote something about its Tegra 2 benchmark test, you can read it if you are interested.

But in this LG Optimus 2X review i only look at the drawbacks of dual core LG Optimus 2X. Seriously this phone is really impressive. I have almost nothing to say about its hardware. But Alas! Presentation of this power is not charming. Main disadvantages of Optimus 2X are its display, sound and operating system.

Take a quick look now to the drawbacks list of LG Optimus 2X-

• 16M color IPS 4.0 inches touchscreen is not impressive as iphone 4 or Galaxy S.
• No Android 2.3 gingerbread at the beginning. This must hurt you when you buy this dual core phone spending huge amount of money.
• 1080p HD video recorded by its 8 megapixel camera must disappoint you.
• No camera lens protection, even no dedicated camera key on side.
• Audio quality is not satisfying.

Despite these few lacking i must say that this phone is awesome. May be it will smell sweeter after the firmware upgrade to Android 2.3 gingerbread. You can buy unlocked LG Optimus 2X from Amazon as low as $243 right away.

T-Mobile USA Soon to Offer Dual-core LG Optimus 2X as T-Mobile G2x

One leaked photo of a promotional banner from T-Mobile certainly gives us something interesting to talk. From the image we can say that T-Mobile US will give you a promotional offer where the winning prize is LG G-Slate. But the attraction is we can see dual-core LG Optimus 2X in the screen. There is a photo of LG Optimus 2X on the banner. But the dual-core Tegra 2 powered LG droid phone is named as T-Mobile G2x there.

We heard earlier that it will become available in US on March or April. And there is also a possibility that T-Mobile will advertise the G2x as a 4G capable smartphone. Unfortunately on T-Mobile network that means HSPA+ rather than LTE. Price or contract details for LG 2Gx in T-Mobile US network is also not known yet.

All LG Optimus Android Phones Must Receive 1 Major Firmware Upgrade

While Android based smart phone are gaining market access over the iPhone or blackberry it’s very important for the mobile phone manufacturers to keep them up to date Google’s pace. And LG officially announces that they are right on track for LG Optimus handsets. Director of global communication of LG, Kenneth Hong says it in an interview that "expectation is to be able to offer at minimum a one-level upgrade for all Optimus smartphones introduced by LG in 2011 and beyond."

Dual-core LG Optimus 2X Review: Nvidia Tegra 2 Benchmark Performance

LG Optimus 2X is the 1st Android smartphone(1st mobile phone too) having a dual core super-fast CPU on board with Nvidia made Tegra 2 graphics chipset. GSMArena recently got the chance to test Nvidia Tegra 2 real performance used in dual core LG Optimus 2X. So now let’s see what they found.

It is true that dual core processor used in LG optimus 2X is the fastest mobile CPU in the world, Nvidia Tegra 2 is also the same. But Mobile OS used in LG Optimus 2X is Android 2.2 froyo. It is not prepared to use the real performance of any dual core mobile processor. Even latest Android version 2.3 gingerbread is not made for using the capacity of Tegra 2 GPU.

Nevertheless, the benchmark test of dual core CPUs already shows its power. Despite the lacking in software section hardware section shows a fabulous performance in the test. Dual core CPUs are considered as real beast in today’s mobile world.

As you can see in the test Android 2.2 running LG Optimus 2X beats Android 2.3 gingerbread running Samsung Galaxy S by a far distance. Galaxy S simply stands no chance against the Nvidia Tegra 2.

If we consider JavaScript performance of LG Optimus 2X it shows an impressive result compare with other Android, Windows Phone 7 or Nokia Symbian OS. Moreover LG Optimus 2X JavaScript performance even comes close to netbook-grade Intel atom CPU. Obviously, it’s an amazing achievement.

But the world is not ready to use dual core Tegra 2 chip true power. If you think you will get double power boost after these dual core benchmark test then you must be disappointed. Most current Android flagship is already buttery smooth and there’s little room for improvement there. All the resource-heavy games run fine now on single core CPUs too. But best quality mobile games for dual core Android phones will be coming soon. Once developers start to make use of the Tegra 2 advanced GPU you will be able to use its full potential.

Nvidia already announced that we’ll see Android games using the Unreal 3 engine (Dungeon Defenders). There are also chances to making games with the iDTech 5 engine (Doom 4 and Rage) and the Frostbite engine (Battlefield: Bad Company).

So until now LG Optimus is the most powerful handset in the world but we will have to wait for matching software development.
