LG announces update plan of Android Ice Cream Sandwich

LG made promise about Android ICS long time ago. They said us that an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich for their phones released in 2011. Now they have just announced a release schedule for the Ice Cream Sandwich update.

The updates will start rolling out in two waves like Sony Ericsson. The first wave will begin in Q2, 2012. LG Optimus LTE, Prada phone by LG 3.0, the LG Optimus 2X, the LG Optimus Sol, the LG my Touch Q and the LG Eclipse are the first in line.

The second wave of updates will begin in Q3, 2012 and will cover the following handsets: the LG Optimus 3D, the LG Optimus Black, the LG Optimus Big, the LG Optimus Q2 and the LG Optimus EX.

Many of these devices run Android 2.2 Froyo untill now. So it seems LG skip Gingerbread for those handsets. But we are happy that LG have slowly learned the importance of timely updates and now seem to be doing an even better job compared to the likes of Samsung and HTC.

LG will be offering the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS upgrade for a range of LG smart-phones which were introduced this year. The global upgrade schedule will begin in the second and third quarters of 2012, which will be followed by a global roll out.

During the second quarter of 2012 upgrades will begin for the following smartphone models: the LG Optimus LTE, Prada phone by LG 3.0, the LG Optimus 2X, the LG Optimus Sol, the LG my Touch Q and the LG Eclipse. These upgrades will be followed by upgrades for the following smartphone models during the third quarter of 2012: the LG Optimus 3D, the LG Optimus Black, the LG Optimus Big, the LG Optimus Q2 and the LG Optimus EX.

LG will be taking all possible measure to offer a smooth OS upgrade in a timely manner. The exact start dates can vary by market, as each country can have different requirements, depending on the carrier and the smartphone model.

At the 1st day of November i told you that LG is going to release Android 2.3 Gingerbread to all its Optimus family. First on the queue is Optimus 2X, which received new firmware last week. Now its the time for Optimus 3D. Many owners og Optimus 3D are reporting that the Gingerbread update for the LG Optimus 3D is now rolling. But majority of owners don't see any of the improvements LG promised to make in the Gingerbread update, such as 3D video editor, image stabilization for 2D shooting, and faster download 3G speeds. And these updates are the center of attention for Optimus 3D users.

Funny LG Update in next week for Optimus 3D, time for Gingerbread

It’s a total shame for the LG Optimus 3D customers. Its surely one of the best Android running smartphones out there. But it’s the time for Gingerbread only for them! It will be released by LG officially in the next week. The update brings not only the usual set on Gingerbread enhancements over Froyo but a number of extra improvements too, like faster data speeds and improved multimedia experience. This Android 2.3 update will push the download speeds over 3G with HSPA+ to 21Mbps (over 14.4Mbps). The upload speed of the LG Optimus 3D will remain 5.76Mbps.

The 2D video camera, which shoots up to 1080p, receives the same image stabilization functionality that the 3D video camera has with the current software. The Gingerbread update will also improve the video recording quality a little.

There's a new 3D Video Editor, which as the name suggests will let users edit their 3D videos right on the device. You can also edit regular 2D videos there. Startup time for the Gallery app on the LG Optimus 3D has been reduced. LG Optimus 3D MP3 playback time will increase too.

The update will begin its rollout next week in Europe for unlocked phones, other markets will follow suit by the end of the year. While LG Optimus 2X customers are looking for Android Ice Cream Sandwich, so Gingerbread for Optimus 3D is not a good move for LG I think.

Gingerbread is coming to LG Optimus 2X, 3D and Black from November 1

LG announced that they will release the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for LG optimus 2X, LG Optimus 3D and LG Optimus Black from November 1. They made the announcement via Facebook yesterday. Updates will be available worldwide, but exact time is carrier and region dependent. And some of you in Europe already have the new firmware waiting on their Optimus 2X. LG would like to express its sincere thanks to all of the Optimus Series owners who have been waiting patiently for the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade. We are excited by the high level of product interest that LG Optimus Series owners have shown, and we are taking all possible measures to offer a smooth OS upgrade in a timely manner.

LG introducing 3D Game Conversion Engine for Optimus 3D at IFA

LG smartphone success in 2011 depends on LG Optimus 3D so much after loss in Q2. That’s why they are taking lots of time and research to make the product more dynamic. Just before IFA 2011, LG has released details of its new 3D Game Converter for the Optimus 3D. This software promises to take any OpenGL game that runs in landscape and convert it to 3D. Around 50 games will come with pre-optimized settings. After installing this on your Optimus 3D, open any game up in the app and it will try to split the foreground and background and recombine both in 3D. If 3D creates any problem then you can also try it on 2D in normal settings.

3D Game Conversion Engine will be available on LG Optimus 3D next firmware update on this October.

World's First 3D Game Conversion Engine for Smartphones to be Unveiled by LG at IFA 2011

SEOUL, Aug. 29, 2011 -– At IFA 2011 in Berlin next week, LG Electronics (LG) will demonstrate the world's first OpenGL-based 2D to 3D game conversion engine available on a smartphone platform. A result of LG's efforts to expand the quantity of 3D content and widen consumer adoption of 3D devices as gaming platforms, the 3D Game Converter is expected to open more doors to 3D gaming content.

The 3D Game Converter will be included in the first Maintenance Release (MR) of the LG Optimus 3D smartphone starting this October, the exact rollout date determined by each mobile carrier.

The 3D Game Converter is expected to benefit both game developers and smartphone users alike. Small and medium-sized game companies will be able to offer 3D versions of their existing 2D games without major investments in human resources, cost or time. Meanwhile, smartphone users will reap the benefits of being able to convert their 2D games into 3D anytime, anywhere free of charge.

"Our Game Converter is a major breakthrough for this industry," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "Mobile gaming is a huge trend on the cusp of massive growth and LG is determined to be the de facto leader in this space."

Once the 3D Game Converter is installed, users can enjoy 3D on previously purchased 2D games1 simply by activating the 3D Game Converter. Games can be switched back to 2D just as easily.

When a user opens a 2D mobile game through the 3D Game Converter, the program automatically scans the game to see if it is listed among the 2D mobile games optimized for 3D conversion. If the game has been optimized, it will be converted into 3D using default visual settings. Unlisted OpenGL-based 2D games can still be converted to 3D by adjusting the settings manually. Optimized settings for approximately 50 2D games will be available by October, with 50 more to be added by year's end.

"Far from being a gimmick, LG's 3D Game Converter automatically recognizes the depth information based on the location of each object and separates the 2D graphic images for each eye," explained Dr. Henry Nho, LG's 3D Technology Evangelist. "Using the existing depth information, the 3D Game Converter generates two different images -- one for the foreground and one for the background. It then uses a thin film called Parallax Barrier on the display to show the left image to the left eye and the right image to the right eye, creating an illusion of visual depth."

LG has filed several patent licenses in major countries such as the U.K., Germany and the U.S. for technologies embedded in the 2D-3D game conversion feature.

LG Optimus One Gingerbread firmware update on the go

LG Optimus One Gingerbread update is scheduled to be released sometimes in future but GSMArena reports that the LG Optimus One has started rolling out. Reports from numerous countries say that the Optimus One is now being updated to Android 2.3.3. The update needs to be downloaded through LG’s desktop client though, as that’s just how LG rolls.

They are also saying that the other recently launched LG phones, such as the Optimus 2x and Optimus 3D will be getting the Gingerbread update soon. I am really looking forward to it. Because without Gingerbread smartphone like Optimus 2X or 3D is looking poor.

LG Optimus 3D Review: Advantages & Disadvantages

LG Optimus 3D is one of the most powerful and fascinating 3D mobile phone out there. And it has a glasses-free 3D screen with dual stereoscopic 3D camera on the back. As there are very few opponents of 3D phones for LG, they did a extra-ordinary job to make this phone better than ever. Although the screen and pair of cameras are the key features, it has everything to become a bestseller even without the 3D trickery. Starting with the dual-core processor and latest-gen graphics, through the capable camera and connectivity package. But at starting it runs Android 2.2 froyo. But I am sure that Gingerbread is coming to Optimus 3D very soon.

Let’s talk about LG Optimus 3D P920 display before I move to my main point. From the front there’s no visible sign of the added 3D in Optimus 3D handset. With a standard 4.3-inches screen that doesn’t look to be buried behind any extra magic layers. It’s a capacitive touchscreen with the usual 480 x 800 resolution, decent brightness, which we measured at 394cd/m2, and a contrast ratio of around 850:1. It’s no IPS marvel but it’s good enough, and it has that 3D party trick that even the best smartphone rivals can’t match.

The dual stereoscopic 3D cameras on the back of Optimus 3D is really fun. They're both 5MP, with autofocus, and have a bright LED flash between them. Each camera is covered individually with its own glass.

Forget about 3D, as a mobile phone, the Optimus 3D is great. LG's new UI is very well done, it provides access to everything a smartphone user is looking for. LG has done a great job with 3D, and they were able to convince me that the 3D apps and functions add to the experience, instead of just being in the way and something you'll want to turn off and ignore. And the phone has all the best hardware on the market.

LG Optimus 3D is now Available at Carphone Warehouse, SIM Free Price is £500

After a long time since the announcement LG Optimus 3D is finally available via UK’s Carphone Warehouse. You can buy this 3D Android phone both in contract with carrier and SIM Free option. You can also choose operator from the list of O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone UK. You will be paying zero to £35 monthly when you buy LG Optimus 3D in contract.

But I am really happy to know that Carphone Warehouse is also offering the SIM free version of Optimus 3D too. Price of the handset is then £500($801) which is not too much a 3D 1GHz dual-core mobile phone.

LG Optimus 3D Will be Available at the end of June in UK

April, May, June- now end of the June is the new release date for 3D LG Optimus handset in UK. LG UK officially announces it via there twitter. LG will now hopefully release it in June or July 1st may be then various retailers and carriers will get it as early as the beginning of July.

LG Optimus 3D release date is now July 13th for Amazon UK. Clove UK will release it by 11th July.

LG Optimus 3D coming to UK in Late May, Price is £492

Both LG Optimus 2X and LG Optimus 3D are two massive talking phone of MWC 2011. All LG Optimus Android Phones Must Receive 1 Major Firmware Upgrade

While Android based smart phone are gaining market access over the iPhone or blackberry it’s very important for the mobile phone manufacturers to keep them up to date Google’s pace. And LG officially announces that they are right on track for LG Optimus handsets. Director of global communication of LG, Kenneth Hong says it in an interview that "expectation is to be able to offer at minimum a one-level upgrade for all Optimus smartphones introduced by LG in 2011 and beyond."

This is very good news for Android phone lovers. It means if your current phone is Android 2.2 froyo then you will get Android 2.3 gingerbread on it. If you buy a LG phone soon with Android 2.3 then Android next version (Ice cream) will be knocking you door.

Now two bad news. We don’t have any idea when these update is scheduled to release. And it is only applicable for carrier free unlocked LG optimus phones. If you buy LG Optimus phones in contract then you will rely on your operator for your Phone’s firmware upgrade.
