Samsung Galaxy S4 will get Android 5.0 Lollipop in early 2014

Android 5.0, or Lollipop as most will prefer to call it, is all the rage these days. It’s the biggest update to the world-dominating OS in years, and users have naturally been wondering which devices will be lucky to make the jump to Lollipop. In case of Samsung their flagship, the Galaxy S5, will be getting Android 5.0 Lollipop, it was even demoed on video. Last year's flagship will not be left out, the Galaxy S4 will be updated too. As far as we learn the Exynos-based Galaxy S4 with model number I9500 will be first. This should be early next year, barring any extra-long delays from carriers.

The Snapdragon 600 version I9505 should be getting it sometime later on, the Galaxy S4 Active I9295 should be getting at the same time since the internals are basically the same. There are also Snapdragon 800 versions – the Galaxy S4 LTE-A and the Galaxy S4 Active LTE-A. Those are essentially based on the Galaxy Note 3 with S800 platform. With the new Android operating system SamMobile guessing Samsung will be aiming to bring the same new look of its software to the S4 as well, and likely other devices like the Galaxy Note 3.

Samsung launches extended warranty program in the US covers drops, spills and much more

If you are interested in any of Samsung’s Galaxy S & Note series smart devices in US then I have one very good news for you. Samsung has your back should your device run into any issues. Thanks to Samsung’s new Protection Plus Mobile Elite program that the company has announced. Under this program, the warranty of the phone will be extended to two years, and Samsung will offer fixes/replacements for damage from accidental drops, electrical and mechanical failures, and replace a device within two business days. Samsung is limiting the number of times a user can claim these benefits to three, which shouldn’t be a problem considering you will probably switch to a new phone if you’ve dropped it or damaged it so many times.

With Protection Plus Mobile Elite, you will be eligible for the following:

1. Covers accidental damage from handling – drops, spills and cracked screens
2. Covers electrical and mechanical failures
3. Advanced exchange – replacement within 2 business days or less
4. 24/7/364 customer support (Closed Christmas Day)
5. Up to three (3) claims allowed during coverage period

At the moment, the Protection Plus Mobile Elite warranty is available only for the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3, and the Galaxy Note 4. Extended warranty isn't free, however, as Galaxy S series owners need to shell out $99, while customers with a Galaxy Note device have to pay $129 for the service. If you need a file a claim to get the device fixed, Samsung mentions that you'll have to shell out an additional service fee, which is $75 for Galaxy S devices and $95 for a Galaxy Note handset.

Android 4.4 KitKat is out for US Cellular Samsung Galaxy S4 and Note 3

US Cellular has started rolling out Android 4.4.2 KitKat to both the Galaxy S4 and the Note 3. You can either get the OTA update, or connect your device via USB and download the update manually using Samsung Kies. As always, you should be on the latest software build to be eligible to receive the update, so go to your device settings and ensure that you’re on the latest build. The baseband version for the Android 4.4.2 KitKat build for the Galaxy S4 is N900R4TYUCNAB and R970TYUFNAE for the Note 3. As always all users will not receive the update at the same time.



US Cellular mentions that making the Android 4.4.2 update includes a new user interface in addition to all the features that are introduced by Google. They include a new phone dialer, Hangouts SMS integration, wireless print integration, new gesture recognition keyboard that has better Emoji integration and a new voice recognition system that allows you to access Google Now by saying, “OK Google” when you’re in the home screen.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Samsung Galaxy S4 leaked

I am sure that every Samsung Galaxy S4 owner is eagerly waiting for the Android 4.4 KitKat update. Samsung is yet to release it or even the release date, we are lucky that Sammobile has received a pre-release firmware of Android 4.4.2-running TouchWiz for the Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505. The release has build number I9505XXUFNA1 and its authorized to use in all over the Europe. Remind this I9505 is the Snapdragon version of Galaxy S4, it’s not I9500, the octa-core version of Galaxy S4.



After testing the firmware for a few days Sammobile comments that the build is still shaky but stable enough to be used as a daily driver. The final update is expected to be released to the Galaxy S4 owners in the February to March window. The most notable changes are the white status bar icons (moving away from the green ones), a camera shortcut on the lockscreen, performance boost and an improved landscape keyboard. Flashing the firmware is pretty straightforward but does include risks of bricking. You need to download the 1GB file and then flash it in Download mode through Odin. If you are interested - follow the Sammmobile link for the instructions and the required files.

Samsung launches exciting ‘Stay New’ upgrade and buyback plans in India

Samsung has come up with a new scheme called ‘Stay New’ in India, which offers consumers affordable ways to buy new Samsung phones and tablets and to upgrade from their older devices. Just after 3 months of buying. The idea is powered after the major success of ‘Buyback’ plans on smartphones implemented by manufacturers like Samsung and Apple to increase adoption of their devices considerably.

Under the plan, consumers will be able to buy new Samsung devices at low monthly installments through credit cards of various banks (HDFC, ICICI, Citi, and Standard Chartered). For those wishing to upgrade to a new device, Samsung will allow them to sell their current device within three to six months of its purchase, after deducting the price of the latter. For a company that refreshes its device lineup every month, the ‘Stay New’ plan is a nice offering that should help Samsung further improve its position in India, which is the world’s third-largest smartphone market.

The Galaxy S4 is coming - Prepare yourselves

You've got to hand it to Samsung - for a company that has to manufacture Apple's Retina Displays without being allowed to put them to use itself, they've created some wonderful first-party hardware. The Samsung Galaxy series has always stood as an example of everything a user could want from a smartphone - good battery life, a great screen, good apps, high-quality build, and the specs to hold it all together.

Now, they've announced their latest opus - the Samsung Galaxy S4. The successor to the extremely popular Galaxy S3, the S4 offers a considerable array of features that is going to turn the heads of those who would otherwise be solely focused on the iPhone or HTC One. Forbes has gone as far as to suggest that "amazing" is the ideal word to use when describing the phone, stating that "you could argue that the worst aspect of the S4′s launch in New York last week was the way Samsung under-sold the phone."

It's even being pitched as a competitor not just to other handsets, but even consoles, as its connectivity with televisions and considerable specs offering the phone up as a worthy rival to the next Playstation and Xbox. While it's unlikely it will offer console-level triple-A experiences such as the likes of Call of Duty it will certainly hold its own as mobile gaming becomes increasingly popular when compared to the more traditional means of enjoying games.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 also presents itself as a device that can show itself on the various devices around your house - not just your television, but your computer, even paying for things when you're out via contactless payment. This is further evidence that other tools and devices are becoming increasingly irrelevant to modern consumers, as smartphones keep adding more blades into their digital Swiss Army knife.

The S4 also takes a fair few steps towards the future of technology, with features like SmartPause. Look away from the screen while watching a video, and the phone will actually pause playback, resuming when it detects that your attention is once more directed at its screen. This isn't just a neat feature - this is a clear sign that Samsung are helping lead the way in the advancement of technology that moulds itself to the needs of the consumer, rather than the consumer having to conform to the limits of the hardware.

Samsung has seen the playing field, and strode onto it wearing gear that hasn't even been thought of by the other teams. From a luxury technology manufacturer in the smartphone field to one of the most popular companies to ever sell smartphones, Samsung's Galaxy S-series is a product of a company standing firmly at the forefront of innovation. Other brands are going to start having to take this company seriously - it no longer needs to copy the rivals. If anything, current market leaders may just end up taking pointers from Samsung instead.
