Remember Xperia Active? It’s the toughest smartphone out in the wild. The tougher is now smarter with new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. Sony has announced on its blog that the update is now rolling out for the phone. The update is being rolled out in batches and will be available in all the regions over a period of time.

You can check out your phone’s notification to see the update signal or manually check for the update. You also need to keep the Sony PC Companion ready for when the update arrives so you can download and install it.

Xperia Mini Pro gets Android ICS treatment

Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro may be a small device but from now it runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS. Sony has just released the Android 4.0 ICS update for this 2011 model Sony Ericsson handset. As it is a OTA, it should be easier for you to download and install in. The update went live almost everywhere.

Sony also announced that the Xperia mini, Xperia active and Live with Walkman handsets will receive Android ICS update in a matter of days. Sony already seeded the ICS updates for Xperia arc, arc S, neo, neo V and ray. The only one 2011 Xperia to be left out on Gingerbread is PlayStation certified Xperia PLAY.

Sony Xperia Arc & Neo receives Android ICS at last

If you bought any of Sony Xperia Arc or Neo (previously known as Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc & Neo) handset then it’s the time for you to change your handset with ICS experience. Both handsets receives latest version of Android OS, 4.0.4, but they're sticking with an older kernel - 2.6.32. The update is being rolled out in stages, so it might not be available for your unit just yet.

Before updating you must check your SI number printed under the battery. The SI is identified by an 8-digit number in the format XXXX-XXXX. Its written just under Sony Ericsson logo under the battery on both handsets.

Xperia phones that already got the ICS 4.3.3 update (arc S, neo V and ray) will also be getting the Android 4.0.4 update soon. The remaining Xperia phones from the 2011 lineup - Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Live with Walkman - are also to get the 4.0.4 update starting some time this week.

Sony Ericsson announces 6 months timeline for ICS upgrade

Sony Ericsson already posted the name of future Ice Cream Sandwich running devices earlier. Now we have some specific time frame from them. A post on the company's blog indicates that the updating process for the Xperia smartphone begin at the end of March/early April 2012. The first batch of Sony Ericsson phones to get a taste of ICS are Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray.

At the second phase seven more Xperia smartphones will receive ICS including Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini and mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Live with Walkman. The update rollout for the second wave will begin from the end April or the start of May 2012.

Sony Ericsson announces XPERIA lineup for Ice Cream Sandwich

How to install Android 2.2 froyo on your Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8

XPERIA X8 is one the 1st Android running phones having many great features. When it was released it runs Android 1.6 donut. Then by time Android 2.1 Éclair was released for XPERIA X8. But Sony Ericsson didn’t release any further modern Android version for XPERIA X8. So in this tutorial i will show you how to install Android 2.2 Froyo on your Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8.

Upgrading Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 firmware to Android 2.2 consisting 3 parts. At first you have to root your device, then backup your phone and at last install froyo on X8. By rooting your phone, device warranty is also lost.

How to root Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8

1. At first download Sony XPERIA driver from here.
2. If you are aware about some settings then you will have to enable the debugging mode on your Mobile Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging.
3. Now you need to download the latest version of SuperOneClick.zip for windows.
4. Extract the file and place it to the root of your phone directory.
5. Plug your phone in to your PC and turn on USB debugging. Be careful not to mount SD card.
6. Open the folder with the SuperOneClick contents and double click “SuperOneClick.exe”.
7. Run the program and click on Root and wait for some time.

How to backup XPERIA X8

1. Switch off you phone for a while.
2. Ones you switch it on press the BACK button multiple times so that a screen will popup.
3. In the same menu select BACKUP and RESTORE option.
4. This will actually create a backup of your phone on the SD card.
5. Copy all the files on the local drive of your computer.

Install 2.2 Froyo on your XPERIA X8

1. Create a folder on your desktop with any name. Let us consider its xproot.
2. Now download the Android 2.2 Froyo Custom ROM and extract that in the folder you have just created.
3. Connect your XPERIA X8 to the computer using USB.
4. Select “Open Folder to view files” in the Autoplay box and then click on OK.
5. Now Go To backup folder present inside the xRecovery 0.1 folder (xrecovery – > backup).
6. Copy the “Android Froyo Custom ROM’s to the backup folder from the xproot.
7. Ones it is done disconnect your phone from the PC and power it off for a while.
8. Now similarly switch on your phone and keep pressing the BACK button continuously which will take you to the xrecovery menu.
9. If you want to backup your phone then follow the above instructions.
10. Still click on the backup and restore option in which you will be able to see two options-
    • Backup your phone.
    • “Android Froyo Custom ROM” file.
11. Select the 2nd option that is Android Froyo Custom ROM.
12. Ones you select it, Android 2.2 froyo will start getting installed on you XPERIA X8.
13. Be patient have a smoke or a cup of coffee and come back.
14. Till the time you are back you will have it installed in your mobile.
15. From the menu select Reboot option.

Ones your phone is started you will see Android 2.2 on it. Enjoy your reborn Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8.

Good news for XPERIA Android owners- ICS is real for you all

If you are using any of the Android running Sony Ericsson XPERIA handsets, then have a strong reason not to change it now. Because Sony Ericsson's Dutch branch stated on their Facebook page that it will indeed upgrade its XPERIA lineup to the latest Android OS. But as always they didn't offer any details on release dates. After that Engadget contacts with Sony Ericsson official and receive the following notice-

Sony Ericsson is currently rolling out the upgrade to Gingerbread 2.3.4 across its entire 2011 XPERIA smartphone portfolio. This software upgrade will be available through a phased roll out in select markets. Beyond Gingerbread 2.3.4, we plan to upgrade our 2011 XPERIA smartphone portfolio to the next Android platform made available to us.

That’s good to hear. The company went on to say that all official software announcements will be posted on its blog. So don’t forget to keep an eye there. But surprisingly Sony Ericsson removed the news from their Facebook page after a while.

Android 2.3.4 update is released for Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo

Earlier Sony Ericsson told us their XPERIA lineup will receive Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread firmware upgrade from October 2011. But Sony Ericsson has decided to surprise everyone by releasing it ahead of schedule for XPERIA Neo. The update brings the firmware version from 4.0.A.2.368 to 4.0.1.A.0.283. If you haven't already check the update then open the software update utility on your PC and see if your device has received the update.

Along with adding Android specific updates such as the ability to make video calls from Google Talk, the XPERIA Neo will also get features like 3D Sweep Panorama, swipe-based text input, built-in screen capture function and enhancements to the Facebook integration, things we saw on the recently announced XPERIA Neo V and XPERIA Arc S.

Sony Ericsson introduces another Android running music phone, Live with Walkman

It seems that Sony Ericsson is getting back to the Walkman brand. Earlier they showed us Android running Walkman Phone, W8. New Walkman droid phone is similar to XPERIA Mini, will be called the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman. With a slightly bigger screen and a strong focus on music you must love this phone.

The Live with Walkman has the latest Android 2.3 OS onboard with customized Sony Ericsson four-corner UI. Live with Walkman is powered by a 1GHz processor; this Android handset features a 3.2 inch, capacitive touchscreen with HVGA resolution, a five megapixel AF shooter with 8x digital zoom, and a front-facing VGA camera capable of capturing HD video in 720p.

Sony Ericsson has placed a special emphasis on the music phone's media capabilities, beefing it up with enhanced audio and Qriocity integration. Sony Ericsson has stereo speakers with xLOUD technology (which improves speaker performance) and the trademark Walkman music player. The 1200mAh battery is good for up to 17 hours and a half of music playback.

This Walkman droid has 320MB of RAM, provides up to 32GB of microSD storage, and offers either tri-band 3G support (HSPA+) at 850, 1900 and 2100MHZ, or dual-band 3G at 900 and 2100MHz, depending on the model.

The Live with Walkman is slated to hit "selected markets" by Q4 of this year, but the price is now announced yet. The phone will be available in two colors- Black and White. It also comes with a good number of accessories like LiveDock multimedia station, XP121, MS430, MBS-400, LiveView.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Gets a Major Update- More Improvements without Gingerbread

All the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 users are eagerly waiting for the release of Android 2.3 Gingerbread firmware while all the other XPERIA tagged Android phones are shifting there from Android 2.2 froyo mark. After a major update for XPERIA X10 by Sony Ericsson we can fear that that will be even longer away from now. Though this new software update for X10 brought many improvements and changes with faster response. The update version number is 2.1.B.0.1.

It will integrate multi touch capability all over the system. The XPERIA X10 got official multi-touch support with its previous update, but that only worked in some of the apps. So it is a nice move by Sony. It seems to boost screen responsiveness and general performance with the effects being most prominent in Timescape UI. Signal strength and in-call sound quality is also improved in this update. You can also switch between 2G and 3G network faster than before. It also takes less time to initiate a call. There are mixed opinions about batter performance of XPERIA X10 after this update. Some says it improves but other disagrees.

It is possible to update your rooted XPERIA X10 via official channel. It’s a very good move by Sony. Sony Ericsson will release this update in USA , UK or other region very soon. But you can visit XDA-Developer forum to download the updated ROM file and update your XPERIA X10 before others.

Sony Ericsson Rolls out Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread for XPERIA Play and Arc

It was only 5 days I posted that Android 2.3.3 for both Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play and Arc is coming. Its now reality. Sony Ericsson released the 1st software update for their Play and Arc XPERIA phones. So far this Android 2.3.3 update is released for just a few different markets and “kits”. But Sony promises they have plan for a the wider roll-out to start end of this week or in the beginning of next week. Sony Ericsson mentioned that unbranded Arcs and PLAYs around the globe will be in the first lines. Android Central reports that European XPERIA Play and Arc owners have already get their firmware upgrade. This update will bring the tighter Facebook integration introduced with the latest Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro handsets. Besides that this update also updates the Android platform to Gingerbread 2.3.3 and brings fixes and improvements based on the feedback. Verizon Offers Sony XPERIA Play for $200 in US, in Stores from May 26

Verizon Wireless would be the first US carriers to offer Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play (PlayStation Phone) to US. It will be available for pre-order on the Verizon Wireless website from May 19, and be available in stores on May 26 for $199.99 on a two-year contract. You can sign for both Nationwide Talk plan and a Smartphone data package with XPERIA Play. Talking plan starts at $39.99 for a month and another $29.99 gives you unlimited monthly data plan.

Verizon XPERIA Play comes with seven pre-loaded games inside with NFL 11 and The Sims 3. For a complete list of Sony Ericsson XPEREIA Play games check this list now. Sony Ericsson custom skin is not there. Verizon includes a mostly stock UI with only some SE wallpaper and widgets.

New Walkman Sony Ericsson WT18i Android Heading for China

It was only a month we heard about Sony Ericsson’s upcoming Android mobile phone W8. Within a month another new Walkman phone is appeared in China. Model number of this new Walkman device is W18i. The OS running this W18i is Android 2.2 Froyo based OMS 2.5. The OS of choice and the TD-SCDMA network support show that this phone is for China only. No information about a worldwide version is still unknown.

Sony Ericsson W18i is also a mid-range phone like W8. It has a 806 MHz Marvell PXA 920 processor, 3.2’’ HVGA screen. The device will have 150MB of internal memory and a microSD card slot up to 32GB memory support. There is a 3 megapixel camera on the back having 480P video recording capability. W18i has one on the front for video calling too.
