Symphony Xplorer W100 Android review: Advantages and Disadvantages

Symphony Mobile already made good impressions with some fabulous Android phones like W50. It’s the best in its class because of its competitive price. I already reviewed it few days ago .in case of you missed it, take a look here. Now I come here today to write something about huge, huge in the sense of its coming from Symphony. Long waited Symphony Xplorer W100 sees the light just before Eid festival in Bangladesh. Symphony W100 is way ahead of W5, W10, W25 or W50. It is run by Ice Cream Sandwich Android operating system. Android there is a 4.3-inch AMOLED screen in front of your eyes to see everything your phone does. At the back there is a 8MP camera with LED flash to capture anything you want anywhere.

Symphony W100 has all the features you need these days. It has 0.3MP front camera, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 32GB memory support, 1600 mAh battery with a 1GHz CPU powering all the stuffs. It also has the sensors like Proximity, Accelerometer etc. There are also a handy numbers of useful apps built-in.

Now time for the main part of my article. Let’s start with Symphony Xplorer W100 advantages-

• 4.3" TFT AMOLED Capacitive 480 X 728 pixel touchscreen is very good
• 1GHz CPU is enough for most of the apps
• Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is the most desired version of Android OS now
• PowerVR SGX 531 GPU is capable of powerful gaming
• 2.09GB internal memory is not bad at all
• 8MP camera sounds nice
• Only 9.8mm thick
• 3G, GPRS, EDGE, Video Calling, A-GPS
• Wi-Fi 802.11, Wi-Fi Hotspot
• Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP, microUSB v2.0
• Office Suite, Skype, YouTube, Google Play support
• Proximity Sensor, G-Sensor, Accelerometer sensor
• Comparatively cheap smartphone with one year of warranty

Here are some of the disadvantages of Symphony Xplorer W100-

• A faster CPU will be appreciated
• 512MB RAM may not enough for multitasking.
• LED flash is not bright enough
• We expect a 15000 range smartphone from Symphony, not 20000 taka

Price of the Symphony Xplorer W100 is 19,990 taka ($235). There are many better alternatives from HTC and Sony are available in the market at this price range. The only problem is there are no warranty support with those smartphones. So be careful to make your choice.

Symphony Xplorer W100 specifications are confirmed

There’s been lot of rumor regarding Symphony’s upcoming Android mobile phone, W100 till yesterday. Its now gone after Symphony released the spec sheet of high end Android phone. It will come with Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 as expected along with a huge 4.3-inch AMOLED TFT full capacitive touch screen. Display of the X100 has a resolution of 480 X 728. Symphony used 1GHz CPU but till now we don’t know its single core or dual core. But I guess it’s a single core CPU. GPU of X100 is not bad at all, its PowerVR SGX 531.

There’s a 8MP camera on the back of the mobile with a 0.3MP camera on the front. As expected Symphony Xplorer W100 have 3G support. It has a 2GB internal memory with 32GB memory card support. There is Wi-Fi 802.11 with Hotspot capability inside with Bluetooth 3.0. Battery of the Xplorer is 1600mAh.

Price of the Symphony Xplorer W100 is still unknown. But we expect it will be around 15,000 taka.

Symphony launching 2 new Android phones soon - W5 and W100

Update: Symphony Xplorer W5 is launced. Its price is 6,990 taka.
After the huge success with three entry level Android devices made by Symphony- W10, W25 and W50, they are preparing to bring more Android devices in Bangladeshi market. These two new devices matches with the current lineup in an effective way. The first one, Xplorer W5 is the low budget entry level smartphone positioning even before Xplorer W10. Another one, Xplorer W100 is a fully capable Android smartphone having state of the art features on cheap mobile devices.

Symphony Xplorer W5 has an improved 1GHz CPU with 180MB user available RAM. Its display is 3.2-inch TFT capacitive touch screen of 240 X 320 pixels resolution. It also runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS. There is a 2MP camera located on the back of the phone. Unlike other 3 devices, it has no front facing camera or 3G support. Otherwise Xplorer W5 has nothing less on its connectivity support list. It has GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi HotSpot, Bluetooth 2.1 and standard MicroUSB 2.0 support. Price of the Symphony Xplorer W5 is still unknown to us.

Symphony Xplroer W100 surely has the killer specs. It also has 1GHz CPU like Xplorer W5 but it has the World’s latest Android OS Ice Cream Sandwich built-in. It has much bigger 4.0-inch AMOLED display and 8MP camera on the back. At this moment we have nothing more about W100 specs. Price is the another mystery to us. But we expect Symphony Xplorer W100 will be priced around 15,000 – 18,000 taka. As a complimentary gift, customers will get 4GB memory card with every set.
