Component prices of iPhone X is $415

It's no secret that the iPhone X is one expensive phone to produce, but how much is Apple exactly paying? Chinese industry watchers have apparently investigated the matter, and have calculated the total cost of components present in Cupertino's latest phone. Apple announced the iPhone X with an exaggerated price of $999 on September 12. The sum is $412.75, or 60% cheaper than the retail price.

Unsurprisingly, the most expensive part of the iPhone X is the Samsung-made 5.8-inch Super Retina display. It’s price is $80 per unit. Other sources have suggested that the cost is even greater at $100-$120 per unit. The NAND memory, acquired from Toshiba is $45 for 256 GB. The 3 GB RAM is half - only $24. Aside from that, Apple's powerful new A11 Bionic chipset costs $26, while the Qualcomm modem that's built on top of it stands at $18. The 3D Face ID sensor is worth $25, while the front glass panel costs $18.

One might argue that a 59% profit margin is quite a respectable achievement. Well, that's not exactly the case. There are a bunch of extra expenses not included in here, such as logistics, manufacturing, the cost of producing the software, and most importantly Research and Development.

At last Apple cuts iPhone prices in Russia

Over the past year the Russian currency falls far behind US dollar, 100% behind in most cases. So all the mobile devices including iPhone has taken the heat. All companies forced to increase their price in order to balance their importing price in Russia. As a result companies like Apple has had a couple of turbulent months on the Russian market. Now, it seems, the storm is finally settling and the local Apple store has introduced a significant price cut to both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, bringing the price tags a lot closer to the international average. And although some mark-up is still detectable, an iPhone 6 will now set you back RUB48,990 for the basic 16GB model and RUB55,990 and RUB62,990 rubles for the 64GB and 128GB, respectively. This represents a significant RUB5,000 decrease, but is still not quite the RUB39,990 the phone was originally going for.

Naturally, the bigger Plus model also has a new price. The 16GB one can be picked up for RUB55,990, which is an even bigger price cut of about RUB8,000. The 64GB one goes for RUB62,990 and the 128GB model will set you back RUB69,999s. Things are definitely looking up for Apple on the Russian market, at least for now, that is. The price reduction seems to have extended to the App Store as well. Basic $0.99 apps now go for RUB59, which is better that the previous RUB62, but again, far from the original RUB33.

Apple crosses 500 million iPhone mark in 7 years

Well the title says it all. Apple, the inventor of modern smartphone, Apple quietly celebrating the joy of selling 500 million iPhone within 7 year of introduction to the market. It’s a huge number considering Apple is only selling their smartphone in premium price with only one model each year except 2013.

Apple sold only 12.8 million iPhone in its first year of release. By that time Nokia was selling this number oh devices every week! The 100 millionth Apple iPhone was sold around February 2011, close to four years since the device first went on sale. But just one year later, the iconic smartphone quickly reached 200 million in sales. By then, of course, AT&T had lost its exclusivity. And quickly, before the end of 2012, the sales total reached 300 million.

iPhone reaches 400 million mark in July 2013 and it is now estimated that on 8th of March someone has bought the 500 millionth iPhone. Many analysts believe that the 600 million mark will be reached before the end of 2014. If reports of 5c price cuts are to be believed, then Apple should have no problem reaching that number.

Bigger display iPhone rumor is getting hotter than ever

After the release of 2013 iPhone 5S, we are continuously seeing several rumors regarding iPhone as usual. And all of them have one thing in common. That is the introduction of bigger than 4-inch display on iPhone 6 (The next iPhone name as we assume). The latest rumor comes from a note to investors by the Wall Street analyst Timothy Arcuri of Cowen and Company, Apple has already decided on the screen size of the next iPhone. The device will reportedly feature a 4.8” display when it goes official. However, the analyst doesn't mention anything about the rumored 5.7” phablet by Apple.

When will Apple release next iPhone in 2014?

They have reached this conclusion by the movements within Apple’s supply chain. In addition to the larger display, the upcoming iPhone will support the Wi-Fi 802.11ac standard, which is not a big surprise. We can also expect several major software innovations brought by the next iOS release.

If Apple remains true to its current release schedule, the next iPhone will likely break cover in September. Recent rumors however, suggest a launch time as early as June. A report on an Apple iPhone with a larger display in the pipeline is hardly a surprise in these days. Because 4-inch display in a state of the art device is not welcomed anymore.

Apple sold nearly 25 million iPads in Q4 2013

According to different sources Apple are enjoying some breathing spaces in tablet war as they might have sold 24-25 million iPad in last holiday season. Both Munster consensus and Fortune magazine published pretty much the same figures so we can take these numbers in to account. Another good news for Apple is many analysts believe that Apple could have sold even more iPads had it not been for the shortage of retina displays for the iPad mini. Keep in mind that the iPad air was released in November 2013. So the number could be even bigger if they release it two months earlier. This is also the indication of good Q1 2014 sales figure for Apple iPads.

Which iPad is selling better: iPad Mini or iPad Air?

Consumer Intelligence Reports released info that indicates the even though the iPad air has been outselling its larger counterparts, the first generation iPad mini is still the king, outselling the air by 9%. Apple will release the sales volume officially on January 27. The same firm also believes that the price of iPads are expected to rise, which does seem like a bold claim seeing as Apple’s tablet’s cost has only fallen since its release.

Apple relaunching 8GB iPhone 4 in India to boost sales

The news and the title say everything for Apple. Things are not going too well in India for Apple. So they decide to take a not so Apple like decision to re-release the three and half year old iPhone 4 in India, specifically the 8GB model, according to The Economic Times. According to the source, the iPhone 4 8GB will be priced in India at around INR 15,000 ($244) through buy back schemes and EMI options. The model launched three years ago has been succeeded by the 4S, 5, 5c and 5s, the last of which starts at Rs 53,500.

The move comes as a result to boost sales in the Indian market, which Apple has been losing to cheaper rivals running Android and Windows Phone 8. India is the world’s second largest mobile market where Android is the number one smartphone OS for quite a long time for time. What is alarming now for Apple is they are losing ground to Windows powered Nokia Lumia too quickly. Earlier Microsoft report said that WP OS is now number 2 OS in India if we take Q4 sales only in our calculation.

Apple relaunching 8GB iPhone 4 in India to boost sales

The iPhone 4 was a popular model for Apple because of its relatively lower price compared to the newer iPhones in India. Apple and the iPhone in particular are aspirational brands in India and as such are on everyone's wish list but the high price of the unlocked models means most people either go for the older cheaper models or some rival brand, of which there is no shortage. Samsung and Sony have a strong market in India along with China made local brand like Micromax and Sony.

Apple's market share in the Indian smartphone market peaked to more than 4% in October-December 2012 and January-March 2013 before dwindling to 1.4% in October 2013, according to CMR data. Samsung's share, in contrast, rose to 42% from 33% in the same period.

With the iPhone 4 being discontinued last year after the launch of the iPhone 5c and the 5s, Apple lost one of its key sellers in the Indian market, along with its customers as well. With the re-launch of the iPhone 4, Apple is trying to gain back some of these customers. The phone is expected to go on sale as early as next week. But I wonder how Apple manages to stock iPhone 4 for India as it is almost out of market for over one year! Is it means Apple has too many iPhone 4 unsold models at their warehouse to dump?

FLIR One can transform your iPhone into a Thermal Shooter

If you have a iPhone 5 or 5S than FLIR One brings something interesting for you. The FLIR One is a case for the iPhone that comes with both thermal imaging and visible light cameras. The thermal imaging unit allows for some pretty cool night vision viewing and snapshot opportunities that are currently unavailable on smartphones. FLIR calls their thermal imaging camera technology Lepton. FLIR explains the procedure of thermal shooting in their website-
FLIR ONE™ is a non-contact device that detects infrared energy (heat) and converts it into an electronic signal, which is then processed to produce a thermal image on your phone screen and perform temperature calculations. Heat sensed by an infrared camera can be very precisely measured, allowing you to use the FLIR ONE™ in a variety of practical and fun ways by revealing a thermal world not visible to the unaided eye.
How to capture heat source image using smartphone

With the FLIR One’s companion application, users can get temperature readouts and even manipulate the colors that are displayed in the thermal imaging mode. There is an app that goes with the system, and can give you precise temperature readouts and it even lets you control the colors on the display. And don't worry about it killing your battery life, the FLIR One comes with a self-contained battery that lasts for four hours.

An official price for the FLIR One hasn’t been announced, but they said that the price will be less than $350. Also, it’s not available for sale yet, but you can register on their website and they’ll email you when it becomes available. This year, the company will release an SDK for developers to build apps for the technology. And Android compatible version of FLIR One will be released in 2014 for selected Android models.

How to capture thermal image using iPhone

There may be a day where all of our smartphones have thermal viewing capabilities built right in. For now, there’s the FLIR One add-on. It worth checking I bet. And dont miss the opportunity to see the this video. No matter you are buying it or not you must see what FLIR One is mean to do.

Corning ready to make 3D Gorilla Glass for wearable gadgets

Over the past few years Corning's Gorilla Glass is useful for protecting the flat screens of our smartphones tablets. But it's not a great fit for the curvy world of wearables yet. The good news is the situation is changing. A new manufacturing technique allows the company to make the product conform to different shapes and designs without sacrificing its strength. Corning just announced that it can manufacture 3D-shaped Gorilla Glass.

Scott Forester, Corning’s product manager for 3D-Shaped Gorilla Glass, said its new production technique allows the curved glass to be manufactured more efficiently and cheaply. It allows Corning to produce glass than can bend 75 or 80 degrees and mold glass into “dramatic shapes,” Forester said.

Which Smartwatch use Gorilla Glass 3?

If all goes well, products using the 3D glass will be on store shelves sometime this year. Durability is certainly a question on consumer's minds when they purchase their latest tech, so expect wearable technology makers to begin implementing the use of 3D Gorilla Glass on various watches, bracelets, and any other devices they can conjure up this year.

There haven't been any partner companies named which will employ the use of 3D Gorilla Glass just yet. But we are sure that would be a leap over offerings from Samsung and LG, which recently introduced smartphones with slightly curved displays. And an iWatch and a curved iPhone with a bigger display are among the most-mentioned possible products for Apple’s pipeline this year, we can certainly see a match here from Corning's point of view.

Thoug Corning’s announcement comes a few months after Apple announced plans to build a new component manufacturing plant in Arizona producing sapphire. Sapphire is gaining popularity in portable devices because it is transparent and more scratch-resistant than glass. A patent filing from Apple earlier this year indicated that sapphire could be used to create scratch-resistant displays.
