Full List of Samsung Galaxy phones that will receive Android 7.0 Nougat update

Though Google released Android 7.0 Nougat back in August 2016, Samsung is one of the companies which were unable to keep up the speed like the rest of the top tier companies. Unlike previous updates, Nougat was first released to developers with a public preview beta program in March 2016, meaning early access to the new version of Android. For several months now, Google Nexus smartphone and tablet users have been using the company’s latest Android operating system.

Now that Samsung’s finally started distributing the long-awaited Nougat update for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge from 12 January 2017, many owners of the firm’s other handsets have started to question whether their unit will be graced with the latest flavor of Android. To clear up the confusion, we’ve decided to compile a list of all the Galaxy-branded devices that will be bumped up to Android 7.0. When is Android 7.1.1 Nougat coming to my phone?

Fate of the Galaxy J5 (2016) and Galaxy J7 (2016) is still unknown but its highly likely that those phone will receive the Nougat treatment. Same may not be true for Samsung Galaxy S5 and Note 4. Once again for the carrier-branded smartphones, all of the major operators in the United States should roll out the firmware for handsets in the Galaxy A, Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series. However, an exact time frame remains unknown. Some of them might start pushing it out around the same time it starts arriving on international units, while some might take a few extra week — and we can only wait and see what happens.

Sony pushes fixes to Xperia X Performance for accelerometer trouble

An issue that has been affecting some users with the Xperia X Performance has been addressed by Sony and a fix is being rolled out now via OTA update. Sony promised about two weeks ago that it has managed to replicate the bug and will fix it in a future update. The issue was with the accelerometer that detects the phone’s orientation. Some handset owners were also facing issues with the responsiveness of the the barometer, magnetometer, gyroscope etc., and this update will fix these problems as well. The OTA fix is coming to the dualSIM variant (F8132) as well as the singleSIM (F8131) models of the phone.

Up until now, the only workaround to fix the accelerometer issues of the Xperia X Performance was to simply restart the phone. Hopefully, the new update, which is supposed to be rolled out for bot single and dual SIM versions, squashes these annoying bugs for good.

T-Mobile shares their wisdom of which Samsung phones getting Android 7.0 Nougat update

Now that Android 7.0 Nougat is officially out, the thing on most enthusiastic user's minds is whether their handset will be enjoying this iteration of Google's mobile OS and if so, when. Sadly, there is never a simple answer to this question, especially when you take into account all the regional and carrier versions of a given phone and their respective support life cycle.

Luckily T-mobile has released the list of Samsung devices that are ready to receive the latest Android 7.0 Nougat update. Unfortunately, the operator didn’t provide a timeframe for when it’s planning to start distributing the OTA, but at least we know it’s on the way. For reference though, T-Mobile was the first carrier to bring Android 5.1.1 to the Galaxy S6 (in just 39 days) but the third to deliver Marshmallow to that device, taking 189 days to cross the finish line. While the update has essentially zero chance of rolling out this year, at least owners of the following devices know they’ll get it eventually.
  • Samsung Galaxy S6
  • Samsung Galaxy S6 edge
  • Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+
  • Samsung Galaxy S7
  • Samsung Galaxy S7 edge
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 5
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 7
T-Mobile has posted a list of Samsung and HTC models that will get an Android 7.0 update

As expected the Galaxy S5 series and the Note 4 has been left out of the update list. It is possible that they may be included in the update list later as this is just the first list revealed by the company for the Android Nougat update.

Samsung Galaxy S6 edge owners receiving Android 5.0.2 just after unboxing

The feeling of getting that shiny new phone is something that’s not often matched in the world of technology. Unwrapping the box and pulling the phone out for the first time is like going back to Christmas as a child. It’s only been hours since Samsung released the Galaxy S6 and the S6 edge, but if users of the latter are to be believed, the device is already getting an update.

Google’s minor update of Android 5.0.2 is officially rolling out to the International version of the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge right now. Users of the SM-G925 variant of the Galaxy S6 edge should head on over to system settings, scroll down to about phone and check that little software updates section of their phone to see if it’s available. Included in the 250.53MB update are the changes and fixes Google made to Android 5.0 when 5.0.2 originally released, as well as a couple of updates for Samsung apps built in to the phone. Specifically we’re looking at updates for the S Planner, Email, Music apps and likely a handful of others as well.

Android 5.0.2 update changelog s6 edge

If the update is not there just yet don’t worry, these things are always done in staged rollouts and it may take a day or two before your specific phone gets the update.

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge officially launch today on a number of US carriers and Internationally as well. US carriers like AT&T also have the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge available today, so if you’re interested in one you should be able to pop into a carrier-themed store near you and check out for yourself. However, the launch hasn't been pitch-perfect, as complaints of scratched units and a camera LED electricity leak problem are echoing across the web. Samsung has acknowledged the latter and is working on a follow-up update to resolve the battery-draining issue.

Verizon Galaxy Note 4 will start receiving Android 5.0 soon

Verizon hasn’t always had a very stellar track record when it comes to updating devices to the latest Android OS variant on devices. Samsung galaxy Note 4 is no different either. After having been received by both AT&T's and Sprint's respective versions of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 already, the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop is now on its way to Verizon's model.

The carrier nicknamed Big Red has published the update documentation on its website, which means the rollout of the new software is imminent (if it hasn't started already). After applying the update, you'll be on build LRX22C.N910VVRU1BOAF. The update will bring a more Material Design looking TouchWiz UI to your screen, lockscreen notifications and all the other little nuances of Lollipop that you have been eagerly waiting for. It will also bring along Verizon’s big push into the Voice over LTE, or VoLTE, with Advanced Calling 1.0. Users will also find new Slow Motion and Fast motion setting in the camera mode section, but Recording mode has been removed from the settings.

Android 5.0 for Verizon Note 4

As usual with these things, keep in mind that the over-the-air rollout will be staged, so it might be a few days (or more) before your Note 4 tells you about the update. If you don't want to wait, you can try to manually check by going to Settings > About phone > Software updates.

1st gen HTC One to get Android 5.0 on March 10 from T-Mobile US

After the disappointing news from Sony its good to hear that HTC isn't abandoning their 2 years old flagship, the original HTC One M7. HTC’s Mo Versi has revealed on Twitter that the T-Mobile One M7’s update to Android 5.0 has received technical approval and that the update will begin rolling out on Tuesday, March 10. No Xperia 'Z' series - The NO 5.0 Lollipop for you : Sony

Users of Sony's Xperia Z series smartphones are in for a treat, as the Japan-based technology giant has revealed that the Android 5.0 (Lollipop) update will be released only for that series. While most other Android smartphones are getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, the owners of Sony Xperia devices inquired about the same for their devices. Replying to a query posted by an Xperia smartphone user, Sony tweeted that the Android Lollipop will be officially rolled out only for the Xperia Z series handsets, and not for other Sony smartphones. That means, the Xperia E1, E2, C3, M2, M2 Aqua, T3, and T2 Ultra will not be getting the Lollipop update.

Sony confirms Android Lollipop update will be released only for Xperia Z series smartphones

Given that Sony’s mobile division isn’t exactly doing well, the absolute last thing it should be doing is angering potential or existing consumers. Still, given the fact that money is so tight, and the products in question aren’t exactly genre defying, spec-blazing miracles, the decision to drop Android update support isn’t hard to understand.

Samsung pushing Android 5.0.1 Update to Galaxy Note Edge in Australia

Looks like Samsung is really busy in rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to its devices. Samsung has already rolled out the update to the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy Note 3, the Galaxy Note 4, and the Galaxy S4 in various markets. Now, the Korean smartphone giant has started updating the Galaxy Note Edge in Australia. The OTA update has a file size of 1018.12 MB, so it would be better if you download the file over Wi-Fi.

The Galaxy Note Edge is almost identical to the Galaxy Note 4 in terms of internals so it was only natural that the curvy smartphone follow closely with Android Lollipop support. The extra screen does pose a lot of software challenges so patience may be necessary to fine tune the new OS to the odd new host.

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Receives Android 5.0.1 Lollipop Update In Australia; Other Countries To Receive In February/March

The Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update for the Australian Samsung Galaxy Note Edge reportedly consists of the following package information: The model number is apparently SM-N915G and the build date is Feb. 13, 2015. Other key details include the Changelist: 4144270, Product code: XSA, PDA: N915GXXU1BOB7, CSC: N915GXSA1BOB7 and lastly, the MODEM: N915GXXU1BOB7.

Australians who haven’t received an update notification yet can force a manual check through Settings > About phone > Software update. If you know what you’re doing, SamMobile also has the Android 5.0.1 firmware file available for download, which can then be flashed with Odin.

Android 5.2 running Nexus 5 appears online

While most people in the US and rest of the world are still waiting for the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, there are already 5.1 and 5.2 sightings and rumors.Where Android’s latest OS – 5.0 Lollipop – is still only found on almost 1.6% of the devices across the globe, Google looks to be in a hurry to rush with subsequent updates, something Android users have become accustomed to now.

A few days ago we reported that Android 5.1 is now official and is already shipping with Android One devices, but a benchmark test suggests that the Nexus 5 might possibly be given another OS update. This time, it could get the alleged Android 5.2 operating system.

Android 5.2 running on Nexus 5 in benchmark test result

The results of a Geekbench benchmark test dated Feb. 17 posted online shows details of an LG Nexus 5 that runs using the still unreleased Android 5.2 OS. Based on the benchmark report, the LG-manufactured smartphone from Google managed to get speed test scores of 934 on single-core and 2992 on multi-cores.

Of course it is natural that Nexus devices are first in line for every iteration of Google's mobile OS, but the jump from 5.1 to 5.2 in such a short time frame is a little bit odd, especially seeing how AOSP branches currently only reach version 5.0.2. We certainly wouldn't rule it out though with one possible explanation being a major bug fix or perhaps even a big new feature. There is, however also the possibility of a custom ROM intentionally reporting a false Android version.

T-Mobile rolls out Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Samsung Galaxy S5 in US

Following Verizon Wireless and Sprint, another USA carrier is reportedly rolling out the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS update. As of the moment, T-Mobile is delivering the customized version of the update to Samsung Galaxy S5 handsets. The update is available over-the-air, and as the download necessary to perform it is over 939MB, so it might take a while to finish. As always in these cases, your phone will notify you once the new software is ready to be downloaded and installed. After applying the update, you should be on Android 5.0, build number G900TUVU1DOB1.

After you get the update installed you'll notice some small visual changes, including a new look for notifications and shortcuts on the lockscreen, a fresh multitasking menu, as well as a redesigned notification shade with some brighter colors. The settings menu has switched from dark blue to white — in line with the Note 4's KitKat build, actually — and there are some subtle stylistic changes around the entire phone. As soon as you're booted up you'll want to head into the Play Store as well, as you'll likely have a couple dozen app updates waiting to bring you to the latest version compatible with Lollipop.

If that hasn't happened yet, you can always force it to manually check using the Settings menu, though whether this will actually successfully bring you the update isn't clear. Alternatively, you can use Samsung's Kies desktop software to get your Galaxy S5 its first taste of Lollipop.

Samsung Galaxy S4 will get Android 5.0 Lollipop in early 2014

Android 5.0, or Lollipop as most will prefer to call it, is all the rage these days. It’s the biggest update to the world-dominating OS in years, and users have naturally been wondering which devices will be lucky to make the jump to Lollipop. In case of Samsung their flagship, the Galaxy S5, will be getting Android 5.0 Lollipop, it was even demoed on video. Last year's flagship will not be left out, the Galaxy S4 will be updated too. As far as we learn the Exynos-based Galaxy S4 with model number I9500 will be first. This should be early next year, barring any extra-long delays from carriers.

The Snapdragon 600 version I9505 should be getting it sometime later on, the Galaxy S4 Active I9295 should be getting at the same time since the internals are basically the same. There are also Snapdragon 800 versions – the Galaxy S4 LTE-A and the Galaxy S4 Active LTE-A. Those are essentially based on the Galaxy Note 3 with S800 platform. With the new Android operating system SamMobile guessing Samsung will be aiming to bring the same new look of its software to the S4 as well, and likely other devices like the Galaxy Note 3.
