Only 2 days ago, I wrote a brand new Sony Ericsson Walkman mobile phone running Android inside is coming; now it comes true. Sony Ericsson Indonesian site just made the W8 official. It will be available from Q2 of 2011 in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. I am happy to see that it is a mid-range Android phone with many good features.
Most of the specs of Sony Ericsson W8 droid is similar to XPERIA X8. It has a 3 inches capacitive touch screen of 320 X 480 pixels. A single core 600 MHz processor and 168 MB RAM powers the phone. There is a 3.2 mega pixel camera on the back with no flash. This Walkman phone obviously has a 3.5 mm audio jack with stereo MH410 Sony Ericsson headset.
Nevertheless, you will be very disappointed to know that this droid Walkman phone has only the 2.1 Éclair version of the Android inside. It is a shame. We at least expect an Android 2.2 froyo running music phone from Sony Ericsson. We don’t even know it is upgradable or not.
Price of this Walkman Android W8 is still unknown. I expect that it is not more than $300. If Sony Ericsson able to keep the price low than Apple iPod face a challenge from this mobile phone I believe.
